Having nothing else to do, Barack Obama has created medieval profiles.

Are fake and pretend profiles and their eventually IP adresses blocked for the future or accepts Geni this ungenealogic clutter ?

I started this discussion as an attempt at US humor.

You will often find a curator following, shall we say, a "suspicious" user profile. This should not be mistaken as approval. You have noticed that he is a part of the "Fake or Pretend Profiles" project. This means that Geni staff has been alerted to this user's fake name.

Once a user is added to the Fake Names project, a Geni staff person evaluates the profile, contacts the user to remind them of the terms of service and that their privileges can be revoked. Their response to that contact determines what happens next. If you read the project overview, you will see a morgue of profiles that have been dealt with.

If you have other questions about the project or fake profiles in general, you can contact Geni staff. If you find fake profiles in the course of your Geni use, please add them to the project.

This project should have both a fun and serious part.

We have for example a curator who are working on merging together all Harry James Potter, {FICT} trees when he is tired of solving medieval conflicts. We will probably keep this tree as a curiosity and link to it from this project if we can ensure that it stays unconnected, as a starter adding a suffix telling that it is fictional since we have real Potter families out there we want to avoid hot-match merges to.
Someone else could take such an initiative on the Simpsons family (hint hint)

Maria, Geni staff are not, and have not time to be proactive on these profiles all the time. They only take direct actions when needed, otherwise they follow-up when asked. Several curators follow the profiles added, and I am probably the curator who spend most time hunting down fake accounts (which also have resulted in death threats).

As stated before: The priority is accounts that do or will create problems, mainly connected claimed historical profiles where their privacy zone blocks historical lines. The last days I have analyzed and sent 29 requests to Geni to take actions. (sorry Ashiya and Amanda!). Obama above will be #30 when I get back to my main computer.

It is some time since I went through the complete list of "collaborators", so please give me a hint if there are some connected fake managers I have missed (i.e probably was not connected when I checked).

Anyone can send their requests to Geni, - just remember that it is a time-consuming job to clean up a released account.

Private User, - sorry, both I and Marie missed your point about Barrack Obama, Jr as fake.
Of course the president himself is not classified as fake, - the above PROFILE of him is added to the project because we doubt that the president have registered himself as a Geni user, so this must be an ordinary user breaking the Geni terms by pretending that he is the president.

Unless Geni gets a letter from the white house telling that it is the president himself he is on the list of fake users that will be removed.

I received a notification to merge profiles, and when I clicked on the link found this profile had been deleted, even though it was was a MP and locked.

It does not look deleted for me, - it is still a locked MP profile.

Maybe, then, the message "profile deleted" was referring to the one I was being asked to merge with. But it couldn't, if it hasn't in fact been deleted yet.

You clicked the request link in the email you received? - those are usually outdated the minute after they was posted.

I always use he Request InBox in Geni because in the moment anyone else solve the request it will be removed from my InBox too.

The fake Obama profile is by the way deleted now.
