Some problems with the Spencer tree in America/CT. Maybe someone could work on resolving these conflicts?
Gerard Spencer, Sr.
Valerie (and all others interested) ... it seem to be that there have been some inconsistent merges in that area of the tree. It looks to me like the issues are "related" (so to speak) to these three: Unknown Profile, Anne ‘Agness’ Spencer, and John Spencer, Sr., of Edworth -- with these issues I saw in a quick 'look-through':
-- There is a curator note on Ann [Agnes] which is clearly inconsistent with her current parents, most likely due to not-so-careful merging.
-- The problems are not specifically with those 3 profiles, but when one tries to follow/resolve parents, grandparents, and great-grands, then one starts to see major discrepancies.
-- some of the spouse nearby seem to *at first* have obvious matches of their multiple spouses, but a look at those spouses' parents show inconsistencies.
Two suggestions:
(1) Start with the existing MP's in that area, document (Source!) both parents and children in the "Abouts"; don't depend on just a link to another document.
(2) Start Discussion(s) on the relevant profiles to "localize" the discussions about the issues and what can be done to resolve them.
The goal should be to have the About reflect (at least!) the correct parents & all the known children. Then, Curators can make those profiles into MP's (parents, spouses, all children, and maybe even +/- another generation or two) so that future merges can be more clearly kept distinct: that is, if a merge is going to have parents or children that don't match up with other MP's, then it is an incorrect merge ... or those "other" profiles need to be 'connected elsewhere'.
By making, for example, all the "John Spencers" for several generations into MP's (even if little is known about some of them, other than they are distinctly different), then they won't be accidentally mis-merged with each other.
Likewise, if parents of any are truly unknown and documented NOT to be what is 'commonly guessed', then those 'unknown parents' can also be set up as MP's -- which are locked, too, to strongly discourage merging incorrect relationships.
It is listed that I added the Families of Early Hartford, Connecticut By Lucius Barnes Barbour Pg.555 in the 'About' section for
Anne ‘Agness’ Spencer back in 2010 but it seems to have nothing to do with her.
This information would be for the Grandson Gerald son of Michael & Elizabeth Spencer and the generations after. Michael was the son of Anne & John Spencer
I will source a few of the References.
John Spencer who is attached as son to Michael B. Spencer and Agnes Lorimer/Limer, I don't think he is there son, Annis or Agnes is listed on her profile and in a reference as being deceased in 1561 so she cannot be his mother.
Michael Spencer had a child Joan baptized on 30 Aug. 1564 but there is no other John born Aug. 1564 listed in the one reference.
There is a John bapt. April 20, 1557 that is the son of Michael Spencer who would be born early enough to be the son of Annis/Agnes. Could be the date on Geni is in error.
I haven't gotten to a portion, if there is any, for the son John and his issue yet.
I agree on that Carole (Erickson) Pomeroy,Vol. Curator
TAG in 1950 had an article on the Spencers....had that John as bapt 1557 and the son of Agnes. Had the sons listed on the John profile tho. (and a bapt. of a daughter Joan with the 21 Aug 1564 date.
maybe we could start a discussion over on one of them, maybe Michael, and deal with all the issues there...

Hello! I didn`t read very carefully all the information about merging my profiles and I pressed the wrong button when one of my far relatives invited me to his tree. Is there any possibility to unmerge my profile and correct my huge mistake?
Solvita Kārkliņa
I have removed you from the Tilgalis parents so now you only have the Rojskijs parents.
Are your relations ok now?
PLEASE just give me your opinion, but do not change.
I have duplicate sisters ERSZEBET nee ROTH, once married to KATZ and once to WEISS, plus a few other wrinkles.
WHICH IS CORRECT???

This probably isn't the right place to be posting this question, the curators are omnipresent not omniscient.
Having said that; why do you think they are sisters not just duplicates of one person?
I'd say that the correct record is the Erzsebet Katz, both records have been made by people that never met her, the Katz record is by her sister in law, whereas the Weiss record is another step removed and doesn't even know the supposed husband's full name.

My apologies for using the incorrect forum.
There are so many discussions, that one does not know where to ask.
The bottom line, if a Curator is going to answer here or elsewhere, it still takes the same amount of time.
Originally I was with your opinion, but the person further removed submitted MANY testimonies about my extended family to Yad Vashem, so far they have stood the proof of time, she seemed very knowlegeable and organised, and she gave the name of the child, which her sister did not.
MAYBE OTHER CURATORS WOULD BE KIND TO GIVE THEIR TWO CENTS.
Private User , careful about soliciting Geni users for moeny. People may mistake you for a MyHeritage staff member ;)
Obviously any curator with an opinion will respond to your query where ever you post it, i just meant that if you posted it in a discussion more relevant to the Shoah(?) you might get more interest from non-Curator types who will be following those discussions.
Goodness knows why I am following this particular discussion, i only paid attention to the notification because i saw your name attached to the post.
Good luck.
Private User -- The best place to ask a question about a profile is to start a discussion on that profile itself (there is that "Discussions" tab). That does several things:
(1) It automatically 'tags' the profile to the discussion, so you don't have to post the link to it (though you'd still want to probably post links to other profiles relevant to the issue, which also 'tags' them into that discussion).
(2) The active managers of that profile (well, the first 20, if more than that) also get notified about the discussion.
(3) As long as you leave it as a Public Discussion (the default), then anyone can see & participate, and it sort of 'documents' the resolution of the genealogical questions involving those profiles.
As Alex implied, the primary intent of this particular Discussion topic is to ask for 'curatorial' (a.k.a. super-user?) assistance when there is something that you (or your friendly collaborating Pro Geni member) can't do, i.e.: don't have the privileges to perform (e.g.: some situations of removing incorrect parents).
Dan Cornett
Thank you.
Your idea is great!
I will do it and copy and paste what was already done here.
Hey guys I have a tree conflict here, can you fix to tree that is most well documented?
Keziah Elizabeth Williams
Dans,
Dan Cornett's logic is fine if there are multiple managers of that particular profile &/or if there is likely to be a lot of interest in a publicly posted discussion about them.
If that is not the case a discussion posted from the profile as described is likely to never get any responses.
Private User,
Check out the Projects feature of Geni, i am not personally interested in the Holocaust but there look to be lots of Projects focused on the topic.
Try this one which has 40 collaborators:
http://www.geni.com/projects/Holocaust-Survivors-%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%A6...
Starting a discussion in a project means that people interested in that topic are more likely to see your discussions.
At least that's my opinion, feel free to delete/disappear this post if i'm wrong ;)
Hi Curators. I invited Jason Henriques to the profile I made here:
Private
When he registered onto geni, he made a mistake and opened up a new profile. Now he is alone right here:
jason henriques
Do you advise he delete his new profile?
I notice I have the option of inviting him to my family group. Do I do that instead?
Thanks, Sandra
Nathan - if it is a cousin you have, or can have, contact with outside of Geni - then you might work something out with him. If you are BOTH interested, but cannot figure out how to do it, folks here might be able to offer suggestions (if he knows the e-mail and password he logged in under, he can log in even if no access to that e-mail now; if he does not know the password but has access to the e-mail, then .... ; if neither, then .... )
this is an abandoned profile no one was appointed to take it over can a curator take ownership of it and please make it public so it can be merged .. it is also connected to the husband who is also private . can this be looked at as well
Lydia Stewart
thanks Sueg
