I'm trying to get proof that Deac. Samuel Chapin and Cicely Chapin had a daughter, Joanna Stebbins

From WikiTree (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Penny-74), there is no mention of a daughter named Joanna in Cicely's will. This is supported in the Chapin genealogy by Howard Millar Chapin, Life of Deacon Samuel Chapin of Springfield, page 37, which discusses the marriages of the children of Samuel and Cicely. Archive.org And again on page 42 with an excerpt from Cicely's will. Archive.org

From WikiTree (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Chapin-160), Joanna should be the daughter of Thomas Chapin and Bridget Hannaford (Bridgette Duport).

Emily Kent Marget -- I just claimed management of Joanna before anyone with ill intentions does; let me know if you want it passed to you instead.

I can find no connection between Joanna and Samuel or Cicely so far. Regrettably, WikiTree doesn't cite the connection to Thomas and Bridget. I'll keep looking as well.

One thing that's certain is that she wasn't born in Springfield in 1631, regardless of what WikiTree says; Pynchon and his men didn't arrive there until 1636.

Okay, here we go...

""The English Ancestry of Dea. Samuel Chapin" (NEHGR)"] says that Thomas Chapin died in England in 1628. and buried on May 27, 1628. Bridget remarried and stayed in England. Joanna, b. 1631, is not their child. So Erica Howton, I am disconnecting your MP at Joanna Lamb

There is also Joanna Stebbins who we're showing b. 1651 - d. 1683, daughter of John Lamb and Joanna (Chapin) Lamb. She has the August death date that's being attributed to this Joanna, alleged daughter of Samuel and Cicely.

All of these Joannas seem to be conflated in on-line trees, which I think has resulted in an additional fictive Joanna being created out of them, and that's why it's impossible to track down records on the alleged Samuel/Cicely one.

So: we cut the daughter of Samuel/Cicely one, merge it into the daughter of John/Joanna one, and then we try to figure out if that one actually did die on that date so we can properly cite it.

Private User - Thanks so much for the help.

Just to make matters worse, there is a new tree for Joanna - Joanna Lamb (I wrote the manager early this morning about it.)
