Profiles Mentioned:

Mary Richard is my great grandmother - my mother's father's mother. The following was discovered on familysearch.org:

I got a message from a genetic 3rd cousin (on 23&me) and went to familysearch.org to try to determine where she fit in my family tree. I found that my great grandfather Charles E. Dumond had been replaced with one Wm. Herlihy and the tree from that point was the Herlihy lineage. So it looked like I no longer existed. I noted that Mary's page had been recently edited by one Elliott Gary and I contacted him to find out what happened.

Mr Gary looked into it and responded: "It appears that Mary Elizabeth Richards and Mary Eliza Richards have been combined even though their birth and death dates, and places, don’t match." As a result, Mary Elizabeth and Mary Eliza both carried the familysearch designation LDWG-N95 although they are NOT the same person. Mr Gary added "it’s an error that others have followed for many years" and "This error is also all over Ancestry."

The correct information as per Mr Gary: (capitalization added by me for emphasis.)

"1. Mary ELIZABETH Richards was born 18 April 1878 in Arichat, Richmond, Nova Scotia, Canada. This location is confirmed in her marriage record to William Daniel Herlihy and in the marriage record of her son Frederick William Herlihy. She died 23 Jan 1936 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum in Waltham, Middlesex, Massachusetts. They had 2 children. Her parents were Robert Richards and Louisa Clara Geyetche. This family stayed in the Massachusetts area.

2. Mary ELIZA Richard (also known as Lila M) was born 15 September 1877 in Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her parents were James Richards and Eliza Jane Raymond. Her birth location is stated in the marriage of her daughter Jennie E. Dumond. SHE was married to Charles Edward Dumond. All of their children were born in New Haven, Connecticut. She died 31 May 1966 in New Haven, Connecticut, and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery there."

Mr Gary affected the correction on familysearch.org, so now Mary Elizabeth Richard (Herlihy) is/remains LDWG-N95 and Mary Eliza Richards (Dumond) is LT1Z-HTF

This Geni profile seems to be an amalgam of the two, combining the birth date, birth location and parents of Mary Elizabeth and the death date and death location of Mary Eliza.

As of this date I am not yet altering anything on Geni. I want to give Mr Gentes and Ms Washington Private User
an opportunity to examine this information
