"Markham, Caerphilly, Wales" — If one accepts the birthplace of his sister Abigail Ashby , being in Salem, that makes the birthplace for Joseph further out of place. That his parents ever lived in Wales would need some sourced explanation.

Without an excellenet source for birth/baptism, I don't think entering a town of birth is a good idea. The only FamilySearch birth record for one of his siblings is Elizabeth, bp. in Arnold.
