Who is the source of his DNA marker being Y-I1? Can the lineage be proven?

Of course, a lineage is only as good as the tree entries.

To examine the Y DNA marker attached to Sterling Johnson, go to the DNA tab. It shows:

Y-DNA (paternal line only)
