Let's list them here and get their trees updated, but don't add to the project https://www.geni.com/projects/2024-U-S-Presidential-Election-Candidates/4494366 until there's more official process.

Kamala Harris, 49th Vice President of the USA has been endorsed by President Joe BIden.

Harris is be tasked with choosing a running mate before Aug. 7. Discussed as running mate:

"Kamala Harris’ Running Mate: Here’s Who Could Be Her VP After Biden Drops Out And Endorses Her" (Sara Dorn, July 21, 2024). < forbes.com >

  • California Gov. Gavin Newsom
  • Colorado Gov. Jared Polis
  • Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker
  • North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper
  • Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz
  • Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear
  • Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
  • Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro
  • Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga.
  • Maryland Gov. Wes Moore
  • Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.
  • Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg

Harris is declared so I think we can safely add her.

Capt. Mark Kelly, U.S. Senator is also being mentioned a lot, and his tree is very sparse.

Andrea Rogers-Valen is my 7th cousin something through Beshear, and there's another 5th cousin something on Geni. So naturally we're rooting for him ... and are available if you run into snags, quite possible with the many Beshear(s) of Hopkins County. He's also a "gateway" as his wife if of Jewish background.

That's quite amusing, Erica Howton I came from Lithuania immigrants and have no idea about my paternal line (that is likely through Italians that never came to the US). My spouse has deep ties to the US, including MA and KY/IN, so maybe that way?

I will keep trying to find more on Andy. He is one of the last hopes that this NYer has. ;)

As one might expect of Appalachia and the tiny town of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, I am actually related several ways to Gov. Andy:

Andy Beshear, 63rd Governor of Kentucky is your third great aunt's third great nephew.

Andy Beshear, 63rd Governor of Kentucky is your fifth cousin once removed.

And, yes, of course I'm a fan! Although I like Mark Kelly & Pete Buttigieg & Gretchen Whitmer & Amy Klobucher & Gov. Warnock also.

Feeling a lot more optimistic about the election ....

:) Here too!

We might want to add Joe Manchin, U.S. Senator as a potential VP pick.

I cleaned up Kelly's profile, which was so outdated that he was still running for office.

I think his grandmother Katherine Irene Gould might be promising, since Turner isn't usually an Irish surname.

It sounds like a lot of these "candidates" are frankly very unlikely and not worth quite as much focus. The betting odds right now are Kelly, Cooper, Beshear, and Shapiro, roughly in that order.

And the pick for Vice Presidential running mate on the Democratic ticket is Tim Walz, 41st Governor of Minnesota

Stephen J Nauyokas has been working on the Walz tree today.

And we were late to the genealogy party. :(

Thanks to Stephen J Nauyokas for building ancestry.

I entered a lot of Swedish profiles. Nervously. Feel free to fix them up.

His ancestry is apparently big news in Luxembourg. Lots of journalists reporting on it. Alas, I do not read Luxembourgish. :)

One example...I'll see what I can do: https://www.rtl.lu/news/national/a/2221854.html

I'm still connecting through his wife, but also now through England > Scotland > Norway > Sweden

I do not uggest a press release, but Geni currently shows

Finnvid den Fundne is Tim Walz, 41st Governor of Minnesota's 32nd great grandfather.

Finnvid den Fundne (d. abt 881)

This Google translation isn't great, but:

"According to the secretary of Sica Kielen Joel Adam, who brought the matter to the fore with his Facebook post, there is still one small death. In his research, the man came across that Darlene Rose was certainly talking about the Democrat's mother. There would be sources who say that she was not the biological daughter of Lawrence Frederick Reimann and Mary Helen Reiser."

Maybe Walz's mother Darlene was adopted? Anyone know a Luxembourgish user who can help track this down?

I can't easily upload right now but note-to-self: https://www.luxtimes.lu/world/us-vice-president-hopeful-tim-walz-s-...

There's a comment in the James Frederick Walz profile claiming Luxembourg is an incorrect report for Darlene. I leave you to it! I'm looking for southern USA tree connections now.

That comment was made by Private User along with some other uncited edits. The matter of Luxembourgish ancestry has been covered extensively by genealogists and journalists in the country, including some who've published primary sources, so I have no doubt about his Luxembourgish roots. If NN has evidence to the contrary, I'd suggest they start a new thread sharing their sourcee?

You've done amazing work, Private User I'm so impressed with our Swedish genealogists. The Iowa USA trees should be so good.

Why, thank you Erica Howton . You do pretty stellar work yourself, if I may say so.
