Erik Wilhelm Sjöblom says about Matilda of Saxony, countess of Flanders
Is the curator's comment not valid any more, because on Geni Matilda has now maternal ancestors registered but the curator says:
"Kuratorkommentar (25/12/2013): Daughter of Hermann I of Saxony by an unknown wife."

Medlands has this:
The necrology of Lüneburg records the death "27 Mar" of "Herimannus dux"[231]. m firstly ODA, daughter of --- (-15 Mar -). The primary source which confirms the name of Hermann's first wife has not so far been identified. m secondly HILDESUIT, daughter of ---. The primary source which confirms the name of Hermann's second wife has not so far been identified. "Otto…imperator augustus" confirmed the donation of property "aliquando Bilingo nostro comiti…in Neletici…quitquid coniunx sua hereditarii iuris habere" to Magdaburg St Moritz by charter dated 28 Jul 966[232]. Duke Hermann & his [first/second] wife had five children:https://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SAXONY.htm#Mechtilddied1008

So the problem is that he had two wives - names unproved:
x NN, poss ODA?
xx NN poss HILDESUIT?

And 5 children from them, but we don't know which belong to whom:

  • BERNHARD (-1011) *LIUTGER (-1011) *MECHTILD (c942-1008)* SCHWANEHILDE (c945-1014) *IMMA ?

Re-curating. Pam Wilson hasn't worked on the tree for many yearsw now.

MECHTILD of Saxony (c942-Gent 25 May 1008)
d/o HERMANN & NN
x BAUDOUIN III
1. ARNOUL
xx GODEFRO
1.ADALBERO 2.FREDERIC 3.HERMAN 4.GODEFROI 5.GOZELON 6.ADELA 7.IRMGARD 8.ERMENTRUDE 9.REGINLIND? 10.GERBERGE? 11.NN

Then those five children must be linked only to their - known - father, whose two [?] wives' names are so far (in lack of sources) merely names of candidates to be married to "Herimannus dux" and then it must be wisest to keep them ("x NN, poss ODA?" AND "xx NN poss HILDESUIT?") out of the ancestry of five children' of "Herimannus dux".

I was quite pleased that I spent an hour setting exactly that up - didn't you see?

Splendid! Thank you Sharon Doubell!
