It is very interesting that Count Alain was noted as a companion of William the Conqueror and most likely was at The Battle of Hastings with him. But his partner, Gunhild Haraldsdatter, was the daughter of Harold Godwinsson, King of England whom William and his army defeated and killed at The Battle of Hastings.

Truth is often stranger than fiction. A similar situation is said to have occurred involving William de Percy and his wife, Emma de Port (unrecognized and disputed by Geni, but long held as fact in the traditional family history). And I don't doubt that there are other examples.
