The Winchester Hotchkiss book from 1912 linked in Margaret's page states that Thomas and his brother Robert was on the ship Ann in 1623. Looking at the passenger list for Ann they are not on it bur a Margaret with her children are on it and she is the wife or Robert. I did not see Thomas or Robert listed. If you look on the passenger list for the ship Fortune from 1621, Robert is listed but no Thomas. I know this information came from books from years age but could they have made a mistake. Could Margaret have been married to Robert as the ships passenger list shows or were both married to a Margaret. You also have a second Robert with wife and children listed in this profile (Robert Hicks, of the Plymouth Colony). I have not looked for a will for any of their wills to see if it clears up any of the info. If Thomas and his wife Margaret were not on one of these two ships do you know which ship and when they may have been on? Both ships passenger list is on line.

I was looking all over for Thomas Hicks, of Scituate & there he is.

He’s not the brother of Robert, I don’t think. And this whole pedigree is disputed:

James Hicks

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hicks-237

Research suggests that this person may never have existed. See the text for details.

The existence of James Hicks, his supposed father Baptist Hicks (distinct from Sir Baptist Hicks b 1556), his marriage to Phebe, and their being parents of Great Migration-era Robert Hicks was introduced to the world in the late 1800s in an undated manuscript by Benjamin D. Hicks, “Hicks MSS,” [sic], a multi-volume set, edited by Mrs Florence Youngs, available only in hard copy form at the Long Island Historical Society. A careful analysis of sources revealed that this manuscript appears to be the earliest to introduce the lineage of the John Hicks (1470) --> Thomas Hicks m. Margaret Atwood --> Baptist Hicks m. Mary Everard --> James Hicks m. Phebe Allyn --> Robert Hicks, immigrant to New England.

But I don’t know where they’re showing the Thomas Hicks who married Margaret West. I’ll look shortly.

The respected genealogist

Herbert F. Seversmith, Colonial Families of Long Island, New York, and New England, 3(c1939):368-383 ably disproves the lineage claims between Robert the immigrant and John Hickes of 1487. See pp 1356-1373; he points out that no marriage record is found for either James Hicks and Phebe [he doesn’t name “Allyn” as her maiden name] or of Baptist Hicks and Mary Everard.

Here’s https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-194270 for Margaret, wife of Thomas.

The wife of Thomas Hicks was Margaret _____, who was probably mother of all this children.

NOTE: Although she has been called "West"[1][2] (and even daughter of Zachariah West of London[3][4]%29 or "Atwood,"[citation needed] no proof of either surname appears in the original records.

There are numerous pedigree charts that list Margaret Hicks as arriving on the Anne in 1622, and claiming her husband was Thomas Hicks. That is incorrect. The Margaret Hicks who arrived on the Fortune in 1621 was the wife of Robert Hicks, who some claim (without support) was the brother of this Thomas.

And https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hicks-231 for Thomas Hicks aka Hix, Hicke

Disputed Origins

Harriet Woodbury Hodge, in ‘’Hicks (Hix) Families of Rehoboth & Swansea, Mass., 1640-1850’’ (1976), LDS #1036844, pp 5-7; 9-10, reviewed land deeds, probate records, vital records and found no evidence of his English ancestry, parents or brother-relationship to Robert Hicks of Plymouth. Therefore, we are detaching him from James Hicks and Phebe Allen.

Neither has any proof been found that Thomas came on the ship "Anne" in 1623 with Robert Hicks' wife and family.

Some comments at https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/521230/who-were-the-parents-of-pgm-imm...

HIcks DNA project is here

https://www.familytreedna.com/public/HICKS?iframe=yresults

One person claiming descent from Ellis Hicks (b 1411), and one from an earlier Sir John Hicks, 13th century.

None that I can see tracing back to Robert Hicks of the Fortune.

One claiming Thomas Hicks, unusual group. And a close match claimed by a descendant of a later Canadian immigrant.

Without knowing how sound those people's paper trails are, looks like no DNA result would confirm anything much at present.

And also

Pope lists these sources for West as her maiden name and Zachariah as her father’s name. We need to check each one and see what they say. Can you help ? Thanks.

HICKS, Thomas (-1653) & Margaret [WEST], dau Zachariah of London; by 1625?; Scituate/Marblehead {East Hampton LI 301; Scituate Hist. 284; Hicks 3; Chute xc; Blood Anc. 67; Foster 76; Winchester (1912) 63; Preston Rec. (ms); MD 11:160; Reg. 5:260, 88:307}

Scituate History 284. talks about Margaret but no mention of maiden name. https://archive.org/stream/historyscituate01deangoog#page/n292/mode...

I will update Margaret and detach as child of Zachariah West & Hepzibah West

And also will detach Thomas Hicks, of Scituate as son of James Hicks & Phebe Hicks

Hatte Blejer on hiatus An FYI, you curate Thomas.

Also detaching Anna Hicks as a wife of Thomas Hicks, of Scituate she looks misplaced.

Of course as always, if there’s evidence, connections can be restored.
