definetely maybe is the answer. You need a name from the 16th century, or whenever surnames became a thing, and see if their is any connection back from there. other replies may be more useful. You might find links if you enter what you know in a tree and use the matches;, carefully!

The first thing you have to do is get your profile connected to the Main Geni tree. Then Geni can show the most direct connection. You do that by adding your parents, their parents, their parents, etc, until you find a duplicate of them already in the tree, and then merge.

If you get that far to find a duplicate, and you don't know how to merge, just ask. It typically takes about 3 to 5 generations. If you don't have that data, send me a message and I can figure out another way that might work.

Most people here are only going by what Geni says when it goes back past the 1600s immigration to US.

Also, Geni most likely doesn't have all the possible connections, but if there is one found, then it has been researched by someone at some point. Until you get your ancestors into Geni and connected to the main tree, it is difficult... because it isn't just last names, it is specific people connected by a blood line at specific times and places.
