Since his Overview states: Please Note: "The father of Robert Coleman of Mobjack Bay, Virginia is not known with any certainty at this time"

why are unproven parents attached to him? That only creates likely inaccurate pathways on Geni. For example, I have no idea if John Coleman and Mehitable Johnson and their lines are really my ancestors or not. Is there proof that just hasn't been added to the profile?

Thanks for any clarification.

Answer: People use names to fill in the blanks with what ever they see off of another tree OR, its a reference from another source

I know people do that all the time, and it's fine if they want to put it that way in their personal tree on another site like My Heritage, Ancestry, etc, while they continue to work on their lines, but Geni is a world tree we all use to help us trace lines and find connections. It shouldn't include unproven, speculative connections that perpetuate unproven pathways, in my opinion, which doesn't count for much. But if my speaking up about it prompts someone to add proof of the connections or disconnect them until proven connections can be added, then it helps us all in the long run.

I agree Debbie Gambrell. Why would curators even allow this since they love disconnecting Native lines all the time.

lol...good one, cousin! roflol! Thanks, I needed a good belly laugh this morning!
