I thought St Patrick went to Ireland, not born in Ireland.
How did he get and Irish name if born to a Romanish family in Britannia (Britain).
He was enslaved in Ireland!

I agree. Anything I ever read of him was that he was born in Roman territory(either the island of Britian, or in Italy), and that we went to Ireland on purpose or by accident(shipwrecked while going elsewhere), then was enslaved on Ireland.

Saint Patrick of Ireland is my 54th great uncle.

Maureen, you have it a bit backward. "Patrick" became an "Irish" name *because* of Saint Patrick. The name derives from the Latin "Patricius", patrician, which might well have been bestowed on any Romano-British boy by parents with pretensions.
