What is there to discuss about this? Please stop spamming hundreds of users each time you calculate how you are supposedly related to somebody.

He is my 35 grandfather... well done on your research Pam

Alfred is my 33rd great grandfather.

A DISCUSSION is about whether thre is new information about the person or if there is a problem with the profile. There is nothing to discuss abotu one Geni user's supposed descent from an historic character, as exciting as they may find it, I do nt need to receive hundreds of so-called discussions which re not discussions, this is just spam.

My 33rd ggf too.

Ouch!!

There is no proof that this family is descended from the family in Crosthwaite in England.

It would be prudent to disconnect the profile.

There are far too many American immigrants on Geni having unsubstantiated ancestors with the aim of "proving" descent.

If there are no records and there is huge uncertainty then the tree should be cleaned up.

If there are any proven lines to royalty that is wonderful but there is no need to spam users with "discoveries" especially when they are likely to be uncertain and are definately unproven.

Alfred the Great, king of The Anglo-Saxons is my 30th great grandfather.

I have now canceled all my emails from geni because this kind of postings lately. I understand being happy about roots, genealogy is a bliss. In that other discussion there are interesting facts. Also under King Alfreds profile, there are many discussions where are links to interesting studies.

There are groups in FB where people link their roots to old royalties ectr. Those groups suites these postings better.

Private User if there is a profile here in Geni, where you suspect is something wrong, start discussion/note curators, the tree will be cleaned and cut if necessary. I am quite sure all of us with European ancestry share the same ancestors when we go back in time enough, but it is a different thing to find sources.

Saga, that is exactly what I did- I started a discussion an posted two links to long discussions which show the alleged path of descent has no proof at all. A curator needs to disconnect the profile and freeze it.

“Alfred the Great, king of The Anglo-Saxons” is my 30th Great Grandfather.

Private User I am seriously considering canceling emails too as it has just become overwhelming.

And yes, there are some wonderful Facebook groups to discuss Royal connections and in various languages. I highly recommend them to help find "notable and notorious ancestors" and new living cousins and leave the discussions for discussions. Best, Susanne

Alfred the Great is my 34th GGF

Susanne Floyd there is more discussion about this spam issue here. https://www.geni.com/discussions/249970?msg=1567449

I really do not understand why just not continue one of these discussions, that already exists.

Also I have seen that if discussion that already exists, can be shut down. This is actually tiring.

It would be better to help this person with the basic tree building, there are some loosely made profiles at her basic tree, (I have seen a bit of a chaos in US trees, normally few generation before MP profiles that are "immigrant ancestors". Many of those problematic profiles have several parents, duplicates, no sources exctr.) It would help the tree concentrating at those, not starting several new threads :/.

There are already existing Alfred discussions:
Alfred the Great, king of the Anglo-Saxons

Alfred the Great, king of the Anglo-Saxons

I'm seeing that basically everyone is directly descended from Alfred the Great. I am connected to the World Tree, so when I go on his profile it says "You are connected to Alfred the Great, king of The Anglo-Saxons" and gives me a button saying "How are you related?". When I click on it, however it can't find either a blood path or an in-law path (even though I'm related to people who I know are related to him). Have I just not developed my family tree enough to have a direct enough path to him that it shows up?
