Hi Anna. Genealogy is my favorite pastime. I do not pick and choose whom I respond to on this portal. I perhaps should be more mindful but I have not been as cautious as I should be. We know we cannot change what was. Mitochondrial Eve and Adam are the DNA beginnings. My DNA descends from them. So one should not hate the messenger (me). There are good and bad people everywhere. In every Family.

There are people today who don't realize the Civil War ended over 150 years ago and you cannot opt your State out of the Union anymore in America. You cannot just write yourself in or out of a Family like you could back in the old days. DNA science can tie up many loose ends. I long for the day when history will open up her hidden libraries and share all of her secrets with the world. The good. The bad and the ugly secrets. So people can begin to love again.

I descend from so many persecuted peoples. Hunters and Predators. Pirates, Vikings, Normans, Barbarians, Crazy people and serial killers. I do not pick and choose. I bring so much love to you all. James you brought up a very good point. 'e pluribus unum'. There are millions of indigenous people like me all over the world with similar versatile DNA like mine.

The history books are gonna need some correcting but lets get it done so we all can move forward.

My Haplogroup goes back 80-140 thousand years or more. L1. No I did not kill off the Neanderthals. LOL.

Maybe I will get a guest appearance on the Bridgertons as a living descendant. Or one of my handsome sons. Ha! Now that is something really exciting to look forward to. Or I might get to visit my ancestor grave and cry near the graves of the fallen. These are some of the things I wish to do before I pass on. I don't care about land and stuff. Hi Vanessa and James. I know you are just kidding, but Anna were Varangian, Kiovan Rusj - not "russian". They had Norse Finnic, fennoscandian N1C1 haplogroup roots, also some Turcic - there were no "Russia" - do not let the name Rus trick you. The state of Kievan Rusj fell to the Mongols between 1237-1242 CE, breaking the region in pieces which later eventually developed into the modern states of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine.

N1c1 is not widely found in Scandinavian countries, but is overwhelmingly found among Baltic and Finnish ethnicities.

I agree that the BBC is lacking in credibility but even a stopped clock is right twice a day. If you follow the links and citations in the article you will see that what they are saying is that although you can be excited and proud to find this information, being descended from European royalty isn't quite as rare as people think.
