It has been claimed that Mariota Hay is the daughter of William Hay, Earl of Erroll, and his wife Beatrice Douglas, but evidence of relationship is not provided.

This proposition is not supported by the Scots Peerage account of the Earl's family which makes no mention of a daughter named Mariota.

Can anyone provide evidence of relationship.

This proposition is not supported by the Scots Peerage account of the Earl's family, which makes no mention of a daughter named Mariota, or by Stirnet's report.

In the absence of evidence of relationship, I propose to disconnect the profile of Mariota Hay from the profile of William Hay, Earl of Errol. Do any of the managers object?

Disconnecting, pending primary Sources to prove this relationship.

So what does your research find on her 4 children on Wikitree, Neil?

  1. Alexander his only lawful son and heir apparent. He died without issue during the life of his father
  2. Marjory who married Thomas Blair of Balthayock
  3. Giles. On 9 Jun 1483 a contract was made regarding her marriage to John Moncrieff son and heir apparent of John Moncrieff of that Ilk. [1]
  4. Christian who was contracted on 25 April 1478 to marry Patrick son of Lord Gray but this marriage did not take place. [2]https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hay-3773#_note-0

Sharon,

Alexander Ogilvy, younger of Inchmartine, may well be the son of Mariota Hay, since he was the lawful son and heir of Sir David Ogilvy of Inchmartine, and Mariota Hay was Sir David's lawful wife, but proof of relationship is wanting.

In this regard it should be noticed that Alexander Ogilvy, younger of Inchmartine, is first noticed in two charters dated 6 August 1480 [links below], when he ratified his father's gift of land to his bastard sons, James Ogilvy, and David Ogilvy, and Mariota Hay is not noticed as the wife of Sir David Hay of Inchmartine until 30 April 1492, when she gave her consent to her husband’s gift of an annualrent to the Friars Minor of Dundee [link below]. Sir David must have secured a liferent for Mariota on his lands of Petmedill and Inchmartine before this date, but exactly when he did this, or if it was prior to the birth of his son Alexander, is not yet clear.
