So, here's my question.
In my husband's family there is a "folk tale" passed down from generations that is spoken in hushed tones. Shhhhhhhhhh
Here it is. It is backed up by one event that seems to really stand out amoung others. When his family left Denmark for greener pastures the official examining their documents - upon return - said "this woman Else Margrethe Nielson is a descendant of the royal house" of Denmark. Why he would say such a thing is unknown but everyone was horrified.
Here's why. Being "illegitimate" was a very, very shameful thing in the eyes of the church & government. Basically taboo.
So, this tale was pressed down & subdued although it was common knowledge "folk tale" in the family.
Now - from what I understand about Royals in every European Royal House, kings & queens did as they choose. My husband's grandfather even said that if a "royal was cold on hunt" it was a practice to "warm ones feet in the body cavity of any handy peasant" Only words. Bear with me. It was also common practice for royals to "take" any peasant girl in the field if it delighted him. Could it be that happened in this tree?
Another disturbing occurance that makes the "folk tale" seem to have a ring of truth in it is this.
Once a man came into their business here in America & the moment he layed eyes on Else he said "You are my relative from Denmark." Evidently he bore a striking and uncanny resemblance to all of the males in her maternal line & knew his history, Claiming that he was a descendant from the Danish Crown. She was mortified & taken back to the "folk lore" once again.
So, if a child is born illegitimate from The Royals does that make them & their descendants lesser than others? What if it wasn't a choice? I can't figure this out.
To those born "out-of-wedlock" or into a marriage where the genetics did not match the paternal line......... are they to be kept from knowing the true identiy of their paternal lines their entire lives - treated very poorly by their peers - as though they "knew" something that the child does not know..
Are children born of powerful men who toss their seed around like salad - beneath everyone else? Should they be kept from the true knowledge of their identity? Where is their place in society? Always cast aside? Their mothers forever shamed into silence?

I have observed that in Northwest tribal culture - the bloodline of chiefs is the bloodline of cheifs. No matter the particulars of conception.
