In 1841 and 1842, James RATCLIFFE the convict on "Elphinestone" was in Australia whilst Elizabeth HANSLOW was in England so they could not have been the parents of Edwin and James H RADCLIFFE

The 1851 England Census does have a

  • James RATCLIFFE age 41
  • wife Elizabeth age 46
  • son James age 9

this is a different family.
