I have already searched exhaustively for proof of her parentage, never finding it. Please post documentation of this kinship if it exists. I disconnected it once already, for lack of proof. And now it's back again. While I do agree that there likely is an unproven "Randolph" connection in this branch, I ruled out Henry Randolph IV awhile back. Her parents are unknown, as far I can tell, although I would agree that she could have been an as of yet unknown Randolph.

There was a Hugh(?) Randolph living in SC at the time, and I believe another Randolph whose name currently slips my mind. The SC Randolphs are far more likely to be the correct connection for my 5th g-grandmother.

However, if what you claim is true, that would be wonderful. But I can't believe it without seeing some evidence. You've added all of the following duplicates trying to merge our little family back into the Virginia Randolphs.

Tabitha Randolph

Henry Randolph IV

Henry Randolph IV

Elizabeth Randolph

Henry Randolph, III

Elizabeth Poythress

Robert Poythress

Anne Eppes

Colonel Francis Eppes, III

Sarah Webb

Captain Henry Randolph, II

James Cocke of Curles

Please don't do this. And I really hope a friendly curator will give us a hand here, because it's pretty overwhelming trying to defend the integrity of our pedigree. If it's true, that's fantastic. But where is the proof?

For Fairfield Co., SC, in 1790 heads of household: James Randolph and William Randolph.

In the same location, 1829 census, B. H. Randolph.

Okay, here it is. I never have been able to figure out exactly how (or if) this fits into my family of Crankfields, but there are some intriguing parallels. Hugh Randolph.

Hugh Randolph, possibly a son of Henry Randolph IV(?), served in South Carolina. Then as he became aged and his family continued to migrate westward through Alabama finally settling in Mississippi, he at some point followed them.

This is a transcript of his military service pension application:

On the pubished pension application, "he states that he was born in the County of Richland State of South Carolina on the 16th day of May 1756"

There is a contact for the University of Alabama Libraries Special Collections Archives department. I have yet to try talking to them, but would love to see what is in the folder. Part of the Gandrud Papers have already been published online, with free access, but for some reason the archivers stopped working after alphabetizing it A-G, by file titles, so that's what is available (no Wilson file).

Permilla is of an age that would make her Hugh's sister, if this all can be proven. If he really is Henry Randolph IV's son, then she would likely be his daughter. I believe it is very possible her name was Permilla, since her granddaughter seems to have been named after her. And I believe it is also very possible that she was a Randolph. But I still don't know for sure who her father and mother were.

There is an MP for Henry Randolph IV with a son Hugh born in SC and a daughter "Millie".

This MP has long been in need of serious maintenance, imho. Pretty frustrating. I've tried researching Henry IV and how he fits in with the rest of the Randolph family, but there were so many of them, and apparently a lot of people who would like to be related to them, for some reason. ;) But I've had difficulty finding much proof, and the messy, overactive, largely unproven MP isn't very helpful.

There was also a pension application for a Henry Randolph of Amelia County, Virginia:

I notice besides the ones I've already called attention to here, there are a regular swarm of duplicate Wilsons and Randolphs, mostly based on copying trees from other commercial ancestry/family tree/genealogy websites -- all without proof of kinship. It would probably take a week to gather them all up, and then what? They just clutter the tree and make it so hard to visualize the true facts.

If Hugh Randolph really did have a daughter named Permelia and a son named "Littleton Cranfield", in light of all the other circumstantial evidence, it is a pretty safe bet he was Permilla Crankfield's brother. But I'm still looking for proof. I could probably do a better job of it, idk. But it would be really nice to have some help with it.

So I can understand why some of us do see the possible connection, but we need evidence for it.

Duplicate Hughs, but I don't find any proof that they're the son of Henry IV Randolph and Tabitha Poythress.
