Joseph Back, of Garrard County is Hermann's grandson. That has been corrected at Geni and DAR

Why do you say that? He has sons.

Hundreds of years ago, back in Thuringia, everyone in your family spelled their last name as "Bach." But when three men in your family sailed to America, in 1740, on the ship Lydia, their last names were written down as "Beck," on the passenger list. This happened because they spoke German, and the person who wrote down their names on that list was obviously not German, and so he wrote down their names as he heard them, phonetically.

The names of those three men were as follows:

1. Johann Wilhelm Bach (1722-1794)--see Johann Wilhelm Bach on FindAGrave.com
2. Johann Jacob Bach (1724-1790)--see Johann Jacob Bach on FindAGrave.com
3. Johann Heinrich Bach (1709-1789)--see Johann Heinrich Bach on FindAGrave.com

Johann Wilhelm Bach was the younger brother of Johann Heinrich Bach, and Johann Jacob Bach was their third cousin.

Children linked:

John, Henry, Joseph, Anna

John Back, of Madison County has been disconnected and is one the Thuringin folks claim

Henry Back, of Madison County is the other.
He is DAR.
I cannot find a DAR for John

You should be able to move them on geni. Or I will after dinner.

By 1772, the two younger men had married, and they migrated to southwestern Virginia with their wives and children. One of these two men, Johann Wilhelm Bach (John William Back), settled in what later became Russell County. He bought about 400 acres along Copper Creek, where it flowed into the Clinch River. He was known as "John Back." He had married Mary Marberry. He died in 1794, and his wife Mary died around 1796. He and his wife probably had several children, but only the names of two are known:

(1) John Back (born on June 25, 1760), who served in the Revolutionary War. He married a woman whose first name was Sarah. They had at least eight children: Constance (born 1789); Jacob (born 1791); Elizabeth (born April 3, 1796); Mary (born 1800); Nancy (born 1801); Sarah (born March 2, 1806); Charles (born 1807); John (born 1809); and Patience (born 1813). He and his family migrated to Wayne County, Kentucky. He later moved to Monroe County, Indiana, where he died, on April 15, 1845.

(2) Jacob Back (born on March 9, 1764), who married Sarah Lloyd. They had at least eleven children: Charles (born December 5, 1787); Mary (born 1789); Charlotta (born 1790); John (born December 6, 1792); Nancy (born 1793); Thomas (born 1795); Patience (born February 28, 1796); Eleanor (born September 24, 1800); Rutha (born November 3, 1801); Elizabeth (born 1804); and Martha (born December 12, 1812). He and his family also migrated to Wayne County, Kentucky. He died there, on December 23, 1839.

There are two Joseph’s, you know.

The Culpeper Joseph married Elizabeth Hoffman-Maggard Back
1755–1826

Erica Howton this is John Bach 1760-- should be a duplicate?: John Back, of Monroe County

Joseph Back, Sr., of Harlan County is the one NOT related to Hermann

Erica Howton I would greatly appreciate if you move them.
I did an UNdo disconnect for the 1760 family but I am starting to see stars in front of my face lol I have been at them for longer than usual and am not as clear/fresh now

Sarah Back was just added today

“ You should be able to move them on geni. Or I will after dinner.”

I already did, I am referring to Germanna database

Ok, I got confused.

Alfred Back Was incorrectly attached as son of Catherine Robertson. He was the out of wedlock son of his sister, Mary Back & John Colyer, Jr.

Added (better; parents to Catherine Back - they were Margaret Robertson & John Robertson

NOTE: Evelyn Rowland, who was a professional genealogist, researched this family for many years, and provided this information. You can find lots of her information on Genforum.com. It was all well sourced and documented.

(She probably means the old genealogy.com)

My conclusion is that we don’t know the parents of John Back, of Monroe County (despite the DAR letter).

He has descendants whose Y DNA haplogroup tested as R M269. Those testers do not claim any origins earlier than John Back b 1760:

Predicted Y: https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Bach_to_Back?iframe=yresults J-Culpeper Co VA to Wayne Co KY John Back b. 1760 CulpeperVA d. 1845 Monroe Co IN R-M269. Jacob>Charles, Wayne Co KY. No parents listed.

Descendants of Group A-Germany to Virginia look right now like they include both the Harman Back line and the Thüringen line.

Thank you, Erica Howton
