Some exciting news! I received from the Jewish Musuem of Prague scans of the so-called Fassionen, or family record pages. These are the sources for the 1748 census book that was published several years ago, but they extend well beyond those years. The 22 books of Fassionbücher (1748–1838) contain 4749 scans. See https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6wq3imxmid8fywv/AADZDypli-YGvJhxP_CJj1gr...

These should help us fill in a lot of the gaps, especially since the ones after 1748 often include the wife's father's name. We've had some trouble with people born after 1748 who marry before the record books start in 1784. These Fassionen records will also help a lot with those as well.

Dear Randy,

Very impressive achievement...I have a lot to research here...Thanks, Peter

This is great, thank you Randy!
Is there anything you can do apart from just look at sheet after sheet? I mean there is no index. Is there some order to it?
Thanks again,
Heleen

Thanks, Randy - amazing!

Hi Randy. This is great! Is there some logic in the order? Some way to search in all the books?

6/15/2021 at 5:21 AM

Can we search in any way with the "find" button on our computers?

Wow - this is an amazing amount of scanning. I looked at a few and the handwriting is very difficult to decipher, but maybe you all are experts. Maybe they will have a search engine included soon, but if you can't read the names too clearly, searching will be difficult. Anyway, this is a wonderful resource for genealogists.

i think it is in chronological order. We have the index up to Fassion #1564 from 1748-1751 on JewishGen so you can search those early ones there.

Is there any information about the teomim family with an emphasis on the women in the family (and their names)?
It should be noted that in the various sources there are different versions regarding the family and it is difficult to know which version is the correct one

No Teomim in Prague at that time, I think.

Would there be anythng that can help us solve our old family mystery?

R' Zvi Hirsh / Herszl Landau is my ancestor and we are descended through him from

R' Samuel HaLevi Landau, ABD Prague son of the Noda Beyehuda.

It is not known if he was a son (in which case the dates would be easiest, but there already is a son of r samuel called Hirsh and he moved tk Hungary of somewhere wnd that doesnt seem to match with our ancestor), or maybe he was a grandchild in which case we dont know through which child of r Samuel.

The dates seem to be in the timeframe of these document, but i cant make heads or tails from them.
I would greatly appreciate any help on the matter.

Menachem.

THANKS so much for this great tip dear Randy!

And appreciation to those who scanned the whole caboodle in and posted it out there for us all to view.

I've already managed to trawl through the first two files and come across some precious finds.

(N.B. my personal tip really is to go into ZEN mode and work one's way through - e.g. when games a bit boring as goals not being scored in current UEFA football competition ...)

DANKE & DEKUJU again!

pip

Here we are more than 2 years later. Has anyone managed to go through any of these 22 books?

Thanks to all!

I use them all the time. No index yet, unfortunately.
