Is there any documentation about why he is alias Lodge? I was told years ago that alias 'whatever surname' back in those times usually meant they were either the illegitimate child of the alias name or they took their spouse's maiden name for inheritance reasons, etc. So there 'should' be something recorded somewhere as to why he is 'alias Lodge' and why his wives and children all use the Lodge surname rather than Littleton.

If you check back a couple of generations, you will see that the Littletons themselves had done a name change: Sir Thomas de Lyttelton took his wife's family name because her family was more important than his.

(By the way, I'm skeptical about "Mary Elizabeth" Whittington - this is much too early for double-barrelled first names.)

Thanks for that info, Maven. I knew there was 'usually' an explanation but hadn't seen it on this line.
