All I got on this Joan de Cocton is: “ Co heiress of Simon de Cocton, who may have been her brother.”

Private User Correctly points out:

These other 2 look so similar to her -
Joan de la Spine
Joan de la Spine

Even though dates are different.

Could you check on this? Thanks.

William de la Spine married Joan de Cockton, daughter of Sir John de Cocton.

The de la Spines lived in Cocton

Same person.

Haven’t nailed down dates yet.

It looks like the Joan de Cocton who married William de la Spine Was “not” the daughter of Sir Simon ll de Cocton, Kt. & Constantia de Parco - but she s frequently seen that way.

For example, https://books.google.com/books?id=8giaoVUufYkC&pg=PA128&lpg...

But 'Parishes: Coughton', in A History of the County of Warwick: Volume 3, Barlichway Hundred, ed. Philip Styles (London, 1945), pp. 74-86. British History Online http://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/warks/vol3/pp74-86 [accessed 17 March 2021]. makes it clear this Joan was contemporary to and not the same as Simon’s heiress.

Simon married Constance daughter of William de Parco before 1226, (fn. 69) but was dead by 1274, when his widow is mentioned, and also their daughter Constance, who had married John son of Master John de Billesle. (fn. 70) Simon and Constance had other daughters. (fn. 71) One, whose name was Joan, is said to have been twice married: (fn. 72) first to Hugh de Burleye, with whom she joined in 1257 in enfeoffing William de Spineto of a half virgate in Coughton, (fn. 73) and subsequently to Hugh de Norfolk, who joined with her in 1274 in a further grant to William de Spyney (this time with Joan his wife) of land in Samborne and Coughton, together with the reversion of the third part thereof held by Constance widow of Simon de Cocton in dower. (fn. 74)

Reading this discussion, there seems to be a lack of evidence that Joan, wife of William de Spinney. had identified parents at all.

That could explain her time traveling in pedigrees.

This fellow was a contributor to the soc, gen.medieval discussion, and has concluded:

“ Given in various sources as Joan de Cocton or de Kinwarton, or both, daughter of a Ranulph and a Christiana, but the evidence seems lacking. This William's wife was a Joan; as far as we can tell, that's all that's known with any certainty.”

I am in agreement.

- I can’t find JOHN de Cocton
- William de la Spine was married to a Joan, they did business with the Cochtons, but there seems no marriages
