I seem to recall laboriously working this out....

LE ROUX, FOUCHER, BRUERE CONNECTION
On 31 Dec 1687 Jean & Gabriel le Roux, Philippe Foucher & Anne Souchay, with Estienne Bruere embarked together on the VOC ship Voorschoten to settle at the Cape of Good Hope. The le Roux brothers & Philippe Foucher were 2nd cousins. Philippe Foucher & Estienne Bruere were second cousins. Anne Souchay was the sister of the le Roux brother's sister in law. They all became progenitors of SA lines.

a Jacques Lenoir & Anne Malvault

b1 Claudine Lenoir

x Jean Bourdon, merchant currier of Mer

Anne Bourdon (c1636 - Feb 1693)

x 24 Feb 1658 Pierre le Roux, baliff (b 1 Sep 1623 - 19 Mar 1682)

Pierre le Roux c 1662 x 22 Oct 1686 Elizabeth Souchay (sister of Anne Souchay, who marries Philippe Fouchay)

Jean (c1666 - 1711 Cape of Good Hope)

Gabriel (1669 - 1711 Cape of Good Hope)

b2 Elizabeth Lenoir

x 24 April 1617 Servais Foucher

Bernard Foucher

x Anne Bruere (do Philippe Bruere x 28 April 1619 Anne Belleton) (sister of Estienne Bruere x Suzanne Hillaire - parents of Estienne Bruere)

Philippe Foucher x Anne Souchay

So the parents are Estienne Bruere x Suzanne Hillaire

Kym Misty Freeman why do you think the father is Estienne Bruère?

Not saying I can't ever be wrong - just useful if you have sources to track and discuss.

Right now David (Dawid) Bruere had Estienne Bruére between the ages of 64 and 65 years old. Also not impossible.

Does Misty have a valid source that she base her claim on ?

2/11/2021 at 12:28 AM

She may well do, Phillipp - don't make her feel like we're putting her on trial :-) It's an ongoing research conversation we're having here and we want her input . :-)

Is it possible there were 2 Estienne's father and son? With David being Grandfather? Cause this shows two Estienne's one born in about 1639 and a son born in about 1665 http://hanekom.org/tng/descend.php?personID=I750&tree=Tree3

Kim the Hanekom site is a family chart done by an individual, but I don't see sources. I would love to let as crack this though.

Thank you for trying so hard.

Johann Hanekom is a very thorough researcher. I do believe he has done his research. I have a Hanekom CD that I bought from GSSA but there the sources, i.e. Death Notice like TAB with the number and year.

The only one I don't know is HEYMAN. The rest is very reliable.

I will try and open the sources and see what they say.

I find this interesting -

Still no primary sources though. Other people's family trees are not that.

I've got to go back to my paying job now - so not going silent for any other reason.

Have a look at the research that went into this: https://sites.google.com/site/lerouxfamiliebond/stamouers/the-le-ro... and tell me what people think.

Sorry Judi - your posts weren't showing when I posted that.

So I can't share a screenshot here so i will add it to David Bruere's entry. Its a page from a PDF of a book called Cape Settlars, the section is From The Loire to the Channel. It is on the Unisa website as PDF to download. I can't share it as a link so i will just add the relevant page.

It looks look a huge study that was done, this is the full name French Speakers at the Cape in the First Hundred Years of Dutch East India Company Rule: The European Background by Maurice Boucher.

2/11/2021 at 12:13 PM

Sounds excellent. I def want to see it. You can upload a pdf to his profile.

2/11/2021 at 12:14 PM

Oh no - hang on - I've got the Boucher one. Use it a lot. Is David Bruere in that?

2/11/2021 at 12:29 PM

Yes he is, chapter 5 pages 113 onwards

2/11/2021 at 12:37 PM

Uploaded the pdf to his profile

2/11/2021 at 2:37 PM

So, we have Boucher telling us that:
Anne was daughter of David Bruere of Mer. In this town lived her brother Etienne and his wife Susanne Ylaire. (see https://www.geni.com/photo/view?album_type=photos_of_me&id=6000000079735452392&photo_id=6000000172465148906&position=2)

and Ghislaine le Mauff's more modern version of the family story pointing to Phillippe Bruere and Anne Belleton (married 28 April 1619) as the parents of Estienne and Anne (https://sites.google.com/site/lerouxfamiliebond/stamouers/the-le-ro... pg 5)

Help!! :-)
