Not an expert, but I would guess two Marys got confused. Mary (Dudley) Paull# shows death in Old Saybrook, but in 1685, her husband, James Paull was still living in Taunton, MA. https://accessgenealogy.com/massachusetts/descendants-john-paull-ta...

I think Mary Dudley of Old Saybrook, CT married Nicholas Mason in Old Saybrook, and died there. Probably, the Mary who married James Paull was not a Dudley. I only did a quick search, but I can't find any documentation supporting Mary (Dudley) Paull# being James Paull's wife.
(Note on wikitree is says "citation needed" for Dudley wife, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Paul-341)
