Is there any info backing up her mother was a Cresset, most info points to her mother being a Griffin.

Was she both?

From the profile notes in Sir Edward Burton of Longnor

“ From Stirnet's "Burton01" page (1st Stirnet link below): "Commoners (which mentioned that his mother was relict of Robert Cresset) identifies the mother of his son as his first wife, Joyce, daughter of Harry Griffin. BLG1952 follows Visititation (which starts with this generation) in identifying her as Joyce Cressett." <It should be noted that Joyce Cresset appears to be this Sir Edward's niece.>”

Or neither?

From https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Burton-320

“Joyce has been suggested in various Pedigrees to be a Griffin, a Cressett and a Coyney. On balance, the most plausible evidence is that of the arms on the Monument now at Atcham, Shropshire, indicating that she was a Coyney.”

Or both?

===Disputed Origins

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Burton-320

Richardson[8] indicated that the Joyce who married first Ralph Lane and second Edward Burton was the daughter of Robert Cressett and Christian Stapleton.

Burke[2] referred to the Joyce depicted with Edward Burton on his monument as Joyce Coyney but noted that his first wife was Joyce Griffin, daughter of Harry Griffin Esq.

On balance, the most plausible evidence is that of the arms on the Monument now at Atcham, Shropshire, indicating that one of his wives was a Coyney with mother Stapleton; and that one of his wives (probably his last wife) was a Joyce who was previously married to Ralph Lane.

Is it possible that he was married to three different women named Joyce?

Hello Erica, thanks for replying, Do you believe Edwards son John’s mother was Joyce Cresset. If you have any info or opinion that would be appreciated.

The info needed I guess is if she was descended from Thomas Cresset.

Doesn’t look like it.

Thomas Cressett of Upton Doesn’t list a Joyce daughter.
