Since George Johnston was born in 1544 and his wife (as listed above) Margaret Hay Johnston was born in 1520, isn't it more likely that Margaret is his mother rather than his wife? At another site (Ancestry) his wife is shown as being Lady Christian Forbes born in 1547 and Margaret Hay being his mother.
