I see where this was curated in 2011 but left with this notation:

Curator Note from Hatte Anne Blejer (Rubenstein) (4/17/2011):
Work in Progress. Is maiden name Owen versus Wentworth?

Is any further information come to light on her parentage? Just curious because if she was an Owen my cousin pathway I'm tracing is correct but if she wasn't an Owen, that changes the connections.

Thanks for any update.

The Lees of Virginia continue to believe that her name is Unknown. The Wentworth name came from a marriage record of an Alice Wentworth that married a Robert Constable, not Francis.

Where the Owen name came from, no one knows.....

It's really annoying when you get these little bits of "everybody knows", but nobody has any evidence to prove it.

The only reason we even know that Col. Richard Lee's wife Anne was a Constable is from a scribble in the margin of a book or paper (possibly not even his) by John Gibbon, (later) Bluemantle Pursuivant. He worked for Col. Richard Lee in Virginia for a couple of years before the Restoration and was in a position to have firsthand knowledge of family details - but few of them ever got written down, and then sometimes haphazardly. (Gibbon was an incorrigible margin-scribbler, and indiscriminate as to whose books he scribbled in, which annoyed his fellows no end.)

Identifying her as the daughter of Francis Constable, London printer and bookseller, was an even later development.

Robin, that seems to indicate that this Alice wouldn't have been Alice Wentworth since the husbands are different.

And if no one knows where the Owens connections came from, I think it would be best if she was disconnected from any parents rather than having probably incorrect connections that throw all Geni pathways off.

Maven, I so agree! I hate when people make connections that can't be validated by any sourced information other than what someone has in their private tree, if that. Most of the errors I find on Geni are in invalid, undocumented connections. ...sigh...

Hatte Anne Blejer

I came across this a couple of months ago and noticed that her maiden name has been in question since 2011 when you made curator notes. I've searched again today and nothing seems to document Alice's maiden name or parentage.

Based on all posted previously, I still think the dubious connections to the Owens familly be disconnected because it's giving pathways that are most likely incorrect. That's how I keep stumbling upon it and feeling I can't trust the Owen connections.

Disconnected as child of Richard Owen, III

There’s research ongoing -

“ Dr Mark Bland has identified Alice, wife of Francis Constable, as being the daughter of Simon Waterson, Stationer. He advises that his forthcoming book, "The World of Simon Waterson, Stationer", will provide the evidence of this connection.”

Intereseting. Thanks for that info, Erica.

Thanks Debbie Gambrell and Erica Howton

Glad to see there is some clarity in sight about the parents of Alice Constable.
