Colonel Julian Minor Quarles, Jr.
WWII Colonel, recipient of the Bronze Star, Silver Star and Oak Leaf Cluster. Shot 3 enemy soldiers before being taken prisoner. He and his CO jumped off of a moving train and spent 33 days behind enemy lines, before making it back to their unit. Featured in Look Magazine American Heroes series.
His bio is a long read, but it's quite interesting.
His father and uncle could also be MPd, too. His father was a US Congressman and his uncle was killed in the 2nd Battle of Manassas. He distinguished himself at the battle of Cedar Run, by capturing, alone, nineteen prisoners and three flags. For this unusual display of courage Gen. “Stonewall” Jackson, with many words of commendation, presented him with an officer’s sword, which is now one of Judge Quarles’ cherished relics. The sword lies in the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond
Honorable Julian Minor Quarles
Pvt. Narcissus Finch Quarles, (CSA)
