A very circuitous route led me into the Adams family where I found a lot of duplicate trees and many places where there were no sources and questionable data, which was surprising.

I have done many merges and tried to resolve data and tree conflicts in the Adams and Cady families. I also touched the LYON family AND a LYONS family of Hallsville, Ohio. There are online trees that confuse Sophia Lyon, daughter of Seth Lyon and Hepzibah Johnson (my cousin) with Sophia Lyons Ponsler, born in Ross County, Ohio.

There were issues with Abigail, the wife of Samuel Adams. Some trees had her as the daughter of a Samuel Adams and Elizabeth Cady. Other trees had her married to a third husband ? Joseph Strong. I disconnected him and it does not show up in Revisions, due to the various merges. I'm fairly sure she had only two husbands, Samuel Adams and Richard Hale, and that she was the daughter of Gideon Cobb.

I'd appreciate eyes on the Adams tree and additional sources and work on Overviews, if there are any descendants who want to ensure this tree is improved.

Contact me or another curator for early New England if you need assistance.

Mary Adams and Samuel Adams who for some reason were attached as parents to Abigail (Cobb) Adams Hale.

Sophia Ponsler, wife of Joshua Ponsler. Born in Ross County, Ohio.

Sophia Lyon daughter of Hepzibah Lyon, born in Massachusetts. No further information about her, but not the same person as the wife of Joshua Ponsler.

Morris Lyons and Keziah Lyons appear to be the parents of Sophia Ponsler.

Keziah, not Lydia.

I’ve detached Sarah Earle as wife of Capt. Samuel Adams and found these notes at https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/collaborate/LTXB-SR8:

Which Sarah is married to Samuel Adams?

Looking at the change log for Sarah Cady Adams indicates the confusion caused by an incorrect source. The major problem is a secondary source, The Descendants of Nicholas Cady, which incorrectly notes that Sarah Cady Adams, the daughter of Richard Adams and Mary Cady, married Samuel Adams. This error can be proven by examining the will of Richard Adams. From Pomfret Deeds, 3:163:

"On 16 Jan 1746, Nathaniel Earl and wife Sarah, and John Earl and wife Rachel, all living in Batemensberg (Beekman Precinct), Dutchess Co, NY, Peter Adams, Richard Adams, Elias Shavilier and wife Mary, all of Pomfret, and David Kendall and wife Jane of Brookfield, Mass, for and in consideration that we have received in full our portions of all the estate that was our father's, Richard Adams, real and personal, therefore we do all and each of us acquit and discharge brother Josiah Wheeler and his wife Hannah of Western, WorcesterCo, Mass, and our brother John Farr and his wife Eunice of Pomfret. . . . "

This not only lists the children of Richard Adams, but includes their spouses.

Other sources quoted in The American Genealogist verify this primary source, as does the land transaction dated 5 Dec 1732 in which Richard Adams deeds 50 acres to Nathaniel Earl and wife Sarah, as he also does to John Earl and wife Rachel (Sarah's sister).

According to Order of Founders and Patriots / Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) / "The Adams Family" by James Truslow Adams, Blue Ribbon Books, NY, 1930, that lists the lineage of the Adams family, (see sources), as follows:

"Also, Capt Samuel and his first wife Sara Felt Adams (m. abt. 1730), who died in 1736. were 4th cousins -- sharing the same 3th great grandparents, John Adams (1555 – 1603) and Agnes Stone (1556 – 1615)" would appear to indicate that the surname of Sarah, the first wife of Samuel Adams, was Felt.
