It is clear from the Wikipedia account that it was not him but his eldest son (presumably Thomas) who was fatally wounded.at Stirling Castle (not in 1573 but in 1578). Sir Alexander died circa 1592, see e.g. https://ethercalc.org/4qjcyra8b1 .
