long ago I also thought it was good in middle, then actually I saw especially in these characters more than historical (medieval!) the Roman number must be an integral part of the numbering name, this avoids a lot of complications in searches and notifications.. in image tags.. search engine.. genealogical data exchange.. and above all when you have to compile a character with 3 names where you put the number, and what name? ;D

Ive seen the Roman numeral after first name mostly, actually. That’s better - middle name field for a nickname in quotes, suffix for a toponym or occupation distinction. I’ll fix the one above.

actually for the most part (not all) if the nickname is the only real element that helps to distinguish it, put the nickname directly on the suffix without "quotes".

When you put it in the middle name, or when you insert it in the name displayed in one of those dukes, counts, principles ... which carry the title in the surname, the "quotes" help a lot :)
