Hello!
I have found some ancestors who were born in Synevyr (in Ukraine now), I learned the Israelite records from that area of the Transcarpathians are lost, but not the civil ones. Or, I could imagine that maybe the synagogues could still have any remaining documents?
József (Yosef/Joseph) Hoffman was born on 20th October 1870 in Synevyr, to Malka Cheimovits and Motyó Hoffman (he could also have been called Márton Hoffman, will be explained later). His mother, Malka Cheimovits must have died before February 1903 as she was written as "deceased" in József's marriage.
Motyó was a men's tailor and was residing in Sighetu Marmatiei in 1903 and József moved there with his wife after the marriage, my grandfather Zoltán/Yitczhak Hoffman was born there in 1906.
He later moved to Khust and was residing there when he married Szeréna Soór/Szura Schor in Túrterebes/Turulung (today in Romania). She was born in August 1881, to Moshe/Móritz Soór and Rebeka/Regina Moskovits. Regina was born in Vámfalu/Vama.
I have found a Leib Hoffman who was born in Synevyr in 1881, to Márton Hoffman tailor and Mali. I assume he might have been József's brother. In his marriage from Satu Mare it says though that Mali wasn't deceased in 1905, but it's either a mistake or maybe his parents may not be the same. He married Júlia Hoffman who was born in Miskolc, Hungary.
Does anyone know of any Hoffmans/Cheimovitses from Synevyr or Hoffmans from József Hoffman and Szeréa Soór in Sighetu?
Thank you in advance!
