All: I am looking for the Lauer family of Janow, near Grodek Jagiellonski.

My great-grandmother Eidel (Adele, b 1874 or 1884) Lauer married my great-grandfather Nachmen (Nathan) Stark (1872-1917), son of Aron Markus Stark and Selde Schor. Eidel’s parents were Mojzesz Lauer and Jutte (last name unknown, unless she and Mojzesz went by her last name). Eidel has a sister, Hencze (1872 - ?) who married Hersch Leib Wurm of Rudki. Hencze and Hersch had three children: Wolf (1896), may have emigrated to Israel), Pawel (1891) and Anna Lea (1902).

Many generations of the Starks were born in Grodek Jagiellonski, including Nachmen (son of Elkune and Chaje Mirel Don), my grandfather Aron Markus (“Max” 1908 - 1994)and his sister Reisel (“Roza,” may have also gone by “Margarete” b.1910).

Nachmen, Eidel and their children moved to Berlin shortly after Roza’s birth and lived there until my grandfather married Malke (“Mollie”) Epstein and emigrated to NYC in 1932, originally from Tarnopol but living in NYC with her parents Mayer Epstein and Perl Israel, also of Tarnopol. Nachmen died in a trolley accident in 1917 or 1919. Eidel and Roza perished in the Shoah.

Our family (on the Stark side) is connected to the Scheiningers (moved to Vienna), Scheins, Billigs, Bohrers, Lowenthals and Zeigers. There was a Naftale Lauer living near Eidel (Adele) Stark before she left Berlin in 1939.

Can anyone help me find the Lauer branch? There is a Jakob Mojzesz Lauer (1823) who married Sara Lauterbach (1823?) but I don’t know if Sara also went by Jutte and there are no records identifying her as such.

Thank you!!!

Leslie, I do have family listed in my tree with the Lauer and Stark names, however, none match the ones you are looking for. But I will keep an eye on my research and see what I find.

Hi, I have family named Hanfling or Hanflik from Ruskin. If you come across them please met me know. Thanks, Tonnie Katz

I meant Rudki. Spellcheck kept changing it.

Have you checked the Jewishgen Family Finder to see other people searching those names from your town and nearby your towns? I see at least one person looking for Lauer from Grodek. It's always worth starting there.

I think I had paternal relatives in Tarnopol in the 1700s by the surname of Grunspon or similar. That is all I can offer you for assistance right now.

Sorry cannot help.

Hi Barbara: Yes, although the individual looking for Lauers is looking for members of the Fern family (which Israel Berisch Lauer married into), there are no matches.

Anything that you can find is greatly appreciated. The families often have several married members, so any couples with both names (or any connections at all) would be a good start. I have really hit a wall. As you know, sometimes a couple took the wife's last name, so i don't even know if Mojzesz was a Lauer or Jutte was.

Thank you, everyone! I won't give up -- this is super important to our family, as it is such a direct branch.

Best to you all,
Leslie (also an Eidel)

Hi Leslie. First of all, if I suspect someone immigrated to Israel I always check BillionGraves.com.
It's not complete but covers most of the cemeteries and the stones within them.
I found a Ze'ev (Wolf) Wurm buried in Haifa, son of Gedalyahu Tzvi - Tzvi might refer to the Hersz part of his father's name. He is also listed as having been born in 1896:
[Ze'ev Wurm https://billiongraves.com/grave/%D7%96%D7%90%D7%91-%D7%95%D7%95%D7%...]
This is the Haifa Hevra Kadisha listing for the grave:
http://kdh.org.il/regular-serch/search-results-deceased/grave-info/...
It says he is the son of Hersz and Hencia.

YES! That is a relative! Thank you SO much! Hencia was my GG Aunt!
