Need help.

These notes:

Also please note: James Basse's parents are not proved yet. We know from YDNA testing that his line is R1b-L47, and the lines of Edward's brothers John Bass 1673 and William Bass 1676 are A1a-M31. (The results from William's line are fairly new.)

So James is unlikely to be the son of Edward. His line matches the line of Richard Basse 1658 and Jane Bryant (a Nansemond line), and the line of William Basse 1618 and Sarah Batten (not a Nansemond line).

Most of the children attached to this profile appear to belong to James Bass c1721-c1763 of Southampton County, Virginia, who married Elizabeth.

I do not know why a NEW discussion was started...I did request someone LOOK AT the TWO Lovewell Harris wives of Edward Basse. Next thing you know I am in cousin mode but I know it takes time so I will be patient.

Also summoning Angus Wood-Salomon

ty....holding my breath and sending you my support and positive vibes lol

You need to supply source data, that would be more useful.

2/1/2019 at 7:12 PM

Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087 I am entirely confused by your points. I do not see you a Bass or a Basse directly.

This is the French Huguenot line, nothing to do with the Nansemond line (I don’t think) - but that’s what you are pointing to as 10th cousin

Captain Nathaniel Basse

So what Bass person is direct to you? Not cousin - direct.

2/1/2019 at 7:17 PM

Ok your most recent Bass, who you just entered into Geni, is Ann Batey

Next step is for “you” to add evidence for parents into her profile & theirs. It would also be helpful to enter her siblings if any into Geni.

2/1/2019 at 7:20 PM

Scratch that - I just merged your tree into my cousin Private User tree. Maybe she has some thoughts / answers to your questions.

What I can say so far is my “guess” is this is a Basse line not Nansemond Bass. But I don’t know - Sources needed and interpreted. There should be plenty.

Oh wow...some drama since I posted!

The Bass(e) tree is so difficult, because there are individuals with a paper trail and yet mis-matched DNA--for example, William Basse 1654, father of Edward Bass 1672, has a solid paper trail to John Basse 1616 and Elizabeth of the Nansemond--John Basse even recorded William's birth in his prayer book in his own hand, yet it appears from the YDNA that William doesn't match his father John, since we have YDNA from two of William's sons (A1a-M31) and it doesn't match the DNA from William's brother and uncle (R1b-L47). The thinking among many of my cousins is that Elizabeth is William's mother and John is not the father. Some think different sexual mores among the Nansemond had something to do with it. We can't exactly go back and ask John and Elizabeth what happened.

We're pretty sure of John's haplogroup (R1b-L47), because we have the descendants of his son Richard and his brother William Basse b. 1618, and they match. The John 1616--Richard 1658 line is Nansemond, and the William Basse 1618 line is not, but they are still the same family, connected in the male line. The descendants of Richard's second wife Mary Burwell are yet another haplogroup (R1b-L21), for reasons no one understands yet (no one can agree on whether she was really his wife or not, but they have been part of the family for a very long time).. Another line of Basses, descended from Richard's descendant Tabitha Bass, has yet a fourth haplogroup (I2b1), because they are descended from a Bass woman who was unmarried.

Four YDNA haplogroup lines in just a few generations of one family.

So....we need to be very slow to disconnect folks in this family, and take a long time to discuss each change, when it comes to Basses. Bass genealogy is very difficult to sort out...there are so many NPEs in this family.

We're also fiercely proud of our ancestry, which makes these discussions a lot more dramatic

Does Edward 1672 still have his original wife Lovewell? No matter what, Lovewell belongs with Edward.

I should have mentioned before (I'm sorry I didn't!) that Edward and Lovewell DID HAVE A SON JAMES. We know that from Edward's will. But beyond that things are too muddled to sort out easily..which James is which? I looked at everything I could find a few years ago...and ended up just leaving notes on the profiles and leaving things as they were, as the safest option. Sometimes the best you can do is put a pin in it until you have more to go on.

I would leave James with Edward and Lovewell, with the caveat that YDNA has called the line into question, and leaving the notes about the likelihood of more than one James, whose families have been mixed up.

With a plea that Bass male descendants please participate in the DNA project if they can!

I think they only thing that really needed to be done for the time and per the request, was merge the two Lovewell Harris.
Also I think it becomes very confusing when there are several discussions about the same thing but in different threads lol.
When one calls oneself the Disconnectress, it gives one pause. I would love to see Lloyd or Angus work on these lines because I see they already have and think they may be connected as well.
Also, when the curator questions one’s request for assistance BASED on perceived ancestry, the curator is obviously biased.

2/2/2019 at 9:34 AM

I am connected through James who married Mary Lanier. He needs to be added back please.

2/2/2019 at 9:41 AM

And I would appreciate if someone would correct what has been done now to THIS line.

2/2/2019 at 9:43 AM

William Baty and Ann Bass. I added and merged Ann because you disconnected her when you disconnected James.

2/2/2019 at 9:45 AM

Right now I am practically not even related to MYSELF 🤔🙄

2/2/2019 at 10:04 AM

Ann Beatty is your third cousin 7 times removed's 2nd wife.

If you will recuse yourself, I prefer to add my line back. I do not wish to engage in a Geni war. DNA says these are my grandparents.

I have ten pages of BASS matches on Ancestry.
You did a major "cut and run" and left the clean-up to others.

Cynthia, at this point -- since you've already asked for another curator to recuse herself and have said you've filed CS reports -- I think it's probably best to leave the matter alone for now and wait to communicate with CS after the weekend. It's very difficult for any of the rest of us to assist you when we know it's an area of contention.
