Why when I research how I'm related does it say: Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the USA is your 6th great uncle's fifth cousin four times removed. (dad's side) But when I tag my daughter still on my dads side there is a more straight forward connection (see below)

(Unfortunately, some paths has a habit of disappearing here on Geni, it's not like they are carved in stone so to say, one day we are related to someone, next day we're not, but by time it will get better here hopefully).

This does happen many times in my family tree of the Bradley/Newberry. The two tree is due to the overlapping that had happened in the past.

Just look up at a tree and you can see that branches can accidentally get tangled after a windy day.

Dawnna is my daughter, so if she is his 12th Cousin thrice removed then I should be his 11th Cousin 2 or 3x removed, something like that. However, when I compare him to me he takes a different path on my dad's line then if I pin him and then compare him to my Daughter. Is it just a Geni quirk?

@Erica Howton, thank you for the link, I am familiar with how to work with relationships within Geni, I think that what is happening with this line is some sort of quirk or maybe a but having to do with Pinning Donald Trump and then going to my daughters profile. I can't pin him and then go to my profile to compare, it didn't allow me to do that. So, the purpose of me posting here was to see if anyone else has seen this quirk and if maybe it's really a bug with the way relationships are mapped by the system? IDK, That is why I asked.

When I saw the post I went to see if the president’s relationship path needed refreshing (the circle icon) & it did, which I did. He now shows as he had previously to me: 15th cousin thrice.

“Share this path” gives me: https://www.geni.com/path/Erica-Howton+is+related+to+Donald-J-Trump...

I then use the “live link” to look for the common ancestor and see if there are any duplicates that could be skewing results.

Another tool that may be more relevant to your anomaly is the ancestor report from your daughter and from you.

My guess is there’s an unmerged profile somewhere giving you the difference.

To track those down, use “view nearby merge issues.”

I just looked at the Scots line you posted & it’s NOT what it should be, Debbie Bell (Allen)

Walk the tree from Trump’s mother. She’s from a tiny island and the last I knew, the official genealogists were getting lost among the many McLeod’s there with minimal records. Notes should be in profiles: in Geni, we follow NEHGR & Gary Boyd Roberts work on the Presidents.

Debbie Bell, you said because your daughter is related then you should be as well. Not necessarily. She could be related to Trump through her Father and not you. Just saying that it is possible for her to be related to soneine and NOT you. Good luck.
