Jean Durand, SV/PROG
I have noticed and have also read here that the father and mother relationships from our paternal great grandfather, Jean Durand SV/PROG in South Africa, have been removed.
Is any one working or researching to re-establish a link, as I have found source documents?
I believe that contrary to popular conceptions that he masy have come from La Motte in Dauphine or the area or a village i.e Die, close to the river Durance in France, he may have belonged to a family living in the area of Rora, Valli Valdesi, present day Northern Italy, at the time.
That part of Italy was known as the French House or Provence of Savoy at the time of him, according to an inscription I found in a publication, I NOMI DI FAMIGLIA DELLE VALLI VALDESI published by Anastica in 1991, joining the East India Company in Holland, as a ship's "surgeon".
Grazie/Merci. Much appreciated and kind "family wishes".
Busy searching for his baptism now or any definite connection with Jonatan Durand --- name of son shows very likely his father ... However not too rush to conclusions.
e,g. my own grandfather named after his fathers's brother and maternal grt Uncle .
My grt grandfather Franz Adam named after his Maternal grt Uncle Franz Adam Schmitz .
Names not a given that of father .
