did they die or were they divorced? what is the history?

King James had numerous mistresses - and fathered nine known illegitimate children.

As far as I can see, although he had many mistresses, he had only two wives. Who are Margaret Wallace and "NN?" They should probably be removed. I am also puzzled by the fact that his mistresses do not show up in his profile, but they do show up in his tree. Is this a bug or is there another explanation? Thanks for your attention!!

hard to find right one for my fifteenth great uncle, Julia youre my fifteenth cousin thrice removed.

I cleaned up NN & Margaret Wallace. His mistresses are set as “ex partner” so they will not show in profile view, that was a curator choice, and a good idea.

Wikipedia summarizes his children

Thank you, Erica! I agree that not showing ex-partners in the profile is a good idea, since the children ARE shown.

There should be a more transparent way to show mistresses and other mothers of illegitimate children.Their biological descendants are just as much descendants.Your mother is your mother whether she was married to your father or not. This is especially true of james and other kings as their illegitimate children were often recognized.

Correct, Albert!

I suppose that's a question that can be addressed to the curator: technically, if set to partner than ex partner, I believe it shows more in tree view.

As a Geni member it is not very relevant to me. I use profile view so I can examine profile details, and "travel the tree" using hyperlinks. So I can easily see names (if known).

For example, from immediate family at the bottom of profile page for James V, I see

(No Name) I didn’t do anything !

The question was asked whether the mistresses would better be designated as “partner” rather than “ex partner.” There might be a view that is more obvious, if they were.

I was trying to explain that if you open the profile to the profile view and scroll down the page to the “immediate family” section (below the “about”), one can easily view the names of the entire family group.

I assume to produce as many heirs as possible. My relative is Adam Stuart Prior of the Charterhouse. His mother is Elizabeth Stuart. I've read the Pope helped James find Priory positions for his sons. He is 1/2 sibling to Mary Queen of Scots. His wife is Janet Ruthven of Ballindean. They had about 5 children.
