A note about Kenneth I MacAlpin: according to the Clan MacAlpin he came from the Kilmartin Glen where also the old Hillfort Dunadd is situated, which is seen as his presumed residence.
Viking raids forced him to move east, most likely to the palace of Fortevoit.
Since 2007, the University of Glasgow has also carried out the SERF project around and in that city, in which remnants of a large palace have indeed been found.
Documentary sources have marked Forteviot as an important Pictish royal center from at least the mid-9th century AD.
Another remarkable fact, in the vicinity of Kilmartin the surname MacAlpin is relatively regular.
