This is the current FindAGrave page for Abigail Roark
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/54197476/abigail-roark
No parents are given, the note “reported to be Cherokee.” Burial place.
The only other records I see, in that many ancestry.com trees she’s listed in, are
- Charles Roark, early North Carolina Census (more details in the Geni Charles Roark profile)
- a Family submission on one of their children listing her as Abigail Cherokee Indian (this is not a primary source, of course)
Is there a record (not tree) I am missing looking at ?
ceilidh I wrote this information you've posted here several years ago. Regarding #6, in the years since writing this, I have made additional discoveries about E-sut-ee. Unfortunately, I had been working from a TRANSCRIPTION of the 1851 Siler Roll and I had incorrectly assumed that E-sut-ee was female since the prevailing thought amongst Abigail Easterd-Vanover's descendants was along that line. Later, when I was able to locate it, I viewed actual images of the 1851 Siler Roll and I quickly realized that the transcription I had been working from had omitted the sex of the people listed. The image of the Siler Roll showed clearly that E-sut-ee was a MAN. As I followed the ECA's & census of E-sut-ee's children and grandchildren they also clearly showed HE was a MAN. Yes everyone, you read that right....HE was a MAN. So now you have it. It's time to let E-sut-ee rest in peace. - (Tara Maggard) THIS UPDATE can be found at: https://www.ancestry.com/boards/surnames.vanover/408.6/mb.ashx

Is the detailed documentation mentioned in the FindAGrave “flower”, correct. The death certificate for her son Enoch Roark clearly defines him as white.
The East Coast Band for the Cherokee has one known child for Dragging Canoe, his mother unknown, name Young Dragging Canoe, no known surviving children.
We have a Cherokee member helping members interpret the rolls, she posts in the project https://www.geni.com/projects/Cherokee-Genealogy-and-History/12
Feel free to ask questions in that Cherokee project.
