Hi Private User

Nothing to do with locks, the relationship calculator on Geni needs to be asked to recalculate. I will do that for you shortly.

See this project for explanation:

https://www.geni.com/projects/Working-with-Relationships/17570

“Geni displays only one relationship even if there are many relationships. Geni caches relationships for several weeks. Recent merges in a line can affect the result. Geni limits the amount of time it spends looking for a path. ....”

In regards to sources, yes, we need to better detail the profile. Luckily she’s in at least two well regarded studies:

The New England ancestry of Dana Converse Backus Page 6

https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89062943196;view=1up;seq=...

And Ellery Crane’s work on the Crane family.

You can even download a PDF of the Backus family for $4.95, I saw, probably well worth it - and share with Geni. :)

I will also look for Anderson’s Great Migration Project in Ancestry.

So any “locking” we’d do on Geni for this family is to prevent false genealogies from creeping in ...

Got her recalculated & now:

Mary (Backus) Crane is Michelle Ogden-Huizar's 8th great grandmother.

https://www.geni.com/path/Michelle-Ogden-Huizar+is+related+to+Mary-...

Sorry - one more comment about Mary Crane

I’ve locked relationships because her family group is complete she’s early in history, and “at risk” for mistakes; and there’s a known fraudulent pedigree in circulation.

Merging can still go on, one profile at a time, although I hope everyone realizes duplicating her is completely unnecessary.

Edited Franklin S. Johnson for you Mary Sanford Drexler

It’s an abandoned tree, request management if you like.

@Erica Howton.
To the rescue again. Thanks. I randomly come across locked profiles and wasn't sure how that worked. Do you recall where that pdf of the Backus family is available for $4.95? I would be happy to share it with Geni and it seems a good investment since I have Backus' on both sides of my tree.

A site called http://www.rootspoint.com/genmall/

“We have thousands of genealogy and family history products, and we add more each week. Check back often!”

http://www.rootspoint.com/product/the-new-england-ancestry-of-dana-...

You can view the book also at hathitrust but I find it difficult to really study or copy / paste snippets to profiles from hathitrust.

@Erica Howton
Where would be a good place to upload this book? It seems placing the entire book in any one profile would be a bit much.

You could make a project and upload the document there. Maybe copy the first generation tree as the project overview.

Check that we don’t already have a Backus Project first.

It’s an important family & genealogy, Anderson cites the book in The Great Migration Begins. So this is quite useful.

This looks like a terrible, horrilbe mistake, not to say the least incestuous.

All fixed but the Aguillon girls families are incomplete.

Private User There “is” a Backus Project, I thought I had seen it! You’ve been invited to collaborate:

https://www.geni.com/projects/Notable-Descendants-of-Robert-Backus-...

You’d want to upload the PDF (50 page limit) as a document here:

https://www.geni.com/documents/upload/project-39378

I’d also make a project discussion when you’ve done so to notify the project collaborators.

This is very nice !

Could someone please take care of this profile's zombie parents? Persis Warren

Alex Bonnett,

Thank you. I'll see if there is a way to bypass the book's pdf security settings to break this down into 50 page sections to upload them in parts. I'll probably be toying with this for a while. Wish me luck.

Just contributed this to project and profile:

See what happens when we dig in & share info ? :)

Hi Private User & Erica Howton,

Thank you very much for your efforts regarding the Backus family, it is greatly appreciated and exactly the sort of collaboration I had in mind when I created the project:

Welcome on board!

One person in my tree, my Brother in law shows 2 sets of parents. Obviously two are correct and two are incorrect. Someone else must have added the two wrong ones.
It also added one sister who is not his sister. Every time I try to assign the correct parents it tells me it cannot and will split the tree.
His two siblings, my wife and sister in law show the correct parents.
How can this be fixed and remove the wrong people in there?

Private User
I am looking at it

I think I see another issue but I don't know if it's related. Someone added my in-laws twice more.
They 2 additional sets of in-laws need to be deleted.

This is same, need to merge

Private User,

When you get a message about splitting the tree, try moving (in tree view) the child to the correct parents (you probably will have to move the child first to the one parent and then to the second parent). If the child then has 2 sets of parents try in profile view on the relation tab to remove the incorrect set of parents).
It will no always work but in most cases this will do the trick.
