Happy New Year to everyone!

My great great grandfather Haim Itskov Katzenelenbeigen (Katzenelenbogen) lived in Lubavichi. As I know, it was large family spread to Orsha, Rogachev (including Michoel Gomshevich Katzenelenbogen, husband of Mume Sore), Riga, Moscow (you can see in in my tree). Katzenelenbogen from Lubavichi first mentioned in 1850s. It is a problem that notes from Lubavichi in Minsk State Archive is mostly absent.

I suppose progentor of this line was Heschel Katzenellenpogen of Brest.

I look for any info about this family. Especially from Khabad sources.

I also have Y-DNA test of my uncle @Yuriy Katzenelenbogen, and 3 autosomal DNA tests from my family, so it will be useful to find out tests descendents of Katzenelenbogen family.

Thanks in advance for everybody for cooperation.

Victor.

Victor Вяткин Dr. Neil Rosenstein's opus, "The Unbroken Chain" documents the descendants of Rabbi Meir Katzenellenbogen (MaHaRaM) of Padua (1482–1565) and Rabbi Judah Lowe (MaHaRaL) of Prague through 22 generations.

Dear Malka Mysels,

I have this book and I already asked Mr. Rosenstein about Lubavichi. Unfortunately he has no information about this line of Katzenelenbogen family.

Malka Mysels what doy you're know about Maharam daughters.. And the connection to maharal son in law Itzhak Katz?

Private User Unfortunately so much has been lost from that period. ie.
"The Maharam Dies, Would Live Long Enough to See the Talmud Burned
A low-grade spat over a book of commentary by Meir of Padua culminated in the Vatican ordering Jewish law books burned throughout the Catholic domain."

seeking sources for Fiegela Katz being daughter of mahram of Padua focused needed renewed attention to the area. The outline of the major rabbinical tree was sketchingly added almost a decade ago, and as archives continue to open up, and the number of researchers increase, sources are being added, and the integrity of tree is being increased.

Also, often because of the similarity of names sometimes wrong branches are connected.
Could it be that someone mistook Maharam for Maharal? As Feige and Katz appear in both. eg.
Maharal of Prague’s daughter “Feige” Vogele Katz (2nd wife), [Maharal dau. #8]

was married to

Rabbi Yitzhak haKohen Katz, [Maharal s.in law]

son of

Rabbi Shimshon Katz

married to,

Fiegela Katz

Just a thought????

Malka Mysels thanks for your thoughts . Its hard for me to believe that people would confuse Maram with the Maharal. There are some erlier sources than geni for the connection

http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=41549&st=&pgnu...=

Neil Rosenstein disesteemed this source saying that Ansel doesn't bring his sources.

My doubt is whats a good source? We dont have metrical records for the 1500s , so is all ichusim or kevarot.

Also why the Katz family would make up that connection when they have a incredible ichus themselves? (Maharal-R Akiva meBudin, etc)

Hi! I am looking for Gita Davidovna Katzenelenbogen, born 1898 in Lyubavichi. She had at least three siblings: Itzko Katzenelenbogen, born in Lyubavichi and died in 1966 in Holon, Israel and Solomon Katzenelenbogen, born on June 7, 1901 in Lyubavichi and died in Moscow, and Faina, born in Lyubavichi, died in Leningrad. I know that one of her brother was a doctor in Moscow in 1940, but not sure who it is, it could be Solomon.

Victor Вяткин where did you find the birth record for Itzka Ruvin Dovidovich Katzenelenbogen? What an amazing document!

Just to be clear, my great-grandmother Faina Markovna Rivkina (1919-1999) was a second cousin to Gita and her siblings. Trying to find out how they're related to us. I've been in contact with Gita's descendants in Israel.

My great-grandmother's parents were Meir Gershovich Rivkin (1871-1942) and Mira Isaevna Bogatyreva (died in the 1940's in Moscow). They were both born in Lyubavichi.
