Patricia,
It ok just found people who died in these places Hard to find if you didn’t know they were admitted they just disappear it just harder search I lucky that lots people to go missing.

here is a marker at the site erected by the Roane County Historical Society that reads:
"Spencer State Hospital Cemetery
Spencer State Hospital, fist called the Second Hospital for the Insane, opened July 18, 1893. Patients with many disorders lived in the facility, as well as elderly people and unwanted children. Many residents without families lived there most of their lives and are buried in unmarked graves. According to WPA information in 1940, Cemetery No. 1 had 750 unmarked graves, 7 marked. Cemetery No. 2 had 100 marked graves, none unmarked. Earliest stone dated 1902. Spencer State Hospital closed June 1989."

It’s a cemetery project. I wouldn’t link to Cause of Death, because CODs will vary. We have a lot of Cemetery projects, they would be linked to locations (city, county, etc.). A hospital “genealogy” project might be interesting, like a historic house project. For example, censuses will list all residents, including staff.

Erica,

This already done it’s a Historical Hospital. I was thinking if there was thinking about people who had Procedures done which caused death at times in different hospitals did pretty bad procedures which might killed some. Why I put Asylum Deaths as possibly a group. I personally don’t know any but who knows what out there. And most these people are forgotten but finding couple in Spencer state Hospital brought this question to mind. It no big deal I was thinking again.

Erica,
I knew of Spencer but there was another one in area as well. This was in Weston West Virginia in Lewis county West Virginia

Patricia Ann Scoggin I need a project for Brain Congestion. I looked it up and there are other "congestions" that were cods in the 1800s, also, in case you want to make one project for all of them. I specifically need one for an infant, if that makes a difference. It doesn't specifically say the underlying cause of the congestion.

Billie June Keaffaber,
I looked it up and was having a problem finding much info on Brain Congestion, but will look a little more today and create a project with what I find and other resources that others can look at for more info.
Pat

Billie June Keaffaber, the project is made, https://www.geni.com/projects/Cerebral-Congestion/4487382

I couldn't find a photo to go with it. If anyone can find a photo that would be appropriate for it I would appreciate it.

Erica Howton,.
Should this new project go under the Neurological Disorders/Diseases heading??? I haven't added it to the COD portal yet, but since is has to do with the brain that seems the most logical place to put it.

This was a difficult project as there wasn't really a lot of info on it.

Patricia Ann Scoggin Thank you for making the project for me. I appreciate it.

I think it’s an old fashioned term for stroke. Yes, neurological.

I have someone who died of a "bleeding ulcer." We have the "perforated ulcer" project, but is that the same thing? The first sentence of that project makes it sound like all ulcer issues go there, but not the rest. Please advise. Thanks.

Dear All,
Seems to me this is an effort to reinvent what is already been established a Long time ago. The statistics here https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/the-top-10-causes-... comes from death certificates, and are All coded per international guidelines.
A death certificate will always have the leading caurse of death first,
Regarding bleading and perforated (gastric) ulcer, they are overlapping, i.e. related to a gastric ulcer, however subtypes of the main diagnose gastric ulcer.

May I suggest that the WHO coding of cause of death is implemented, instead of inventing new systems to capture data entered on death certificates based on the existing system

Erica Howton,
I can agree with Michael, esp. regarding deaths within the years since there were international guidelines. What do you think??? Should I make a project for "bleeding ulcers" as it may be for someone before these guidelines were established.
Pat

Dear All,

Sorry to continue.
Till antibiotics were available death by infektions was the major killer, as child birth.

From a medical point of view, capturing cause of death looking at your relatives makes most sense to me, if you potentially could identify a increased risk for your self and other people still living.
In addition to the current who codings, you have other diagnoses in the Old days, which in some cases can be directly translated to modern diagnoses. However many of the Old diagnoses are “misleading”, based on less knowledge and abilities to make accurate diagnoses.

To me, an ulcer is an ulcer, and there is nothing to be gained by subprojects for it.

Indeed, wherever we can translate old fashioned terminology into current WHO & ICD 9 coding, we should.

So....I can put this person in the Perforated Ulcer project? I am good with that, but I am not a medical professional and am just following what was listed in biography.

Susanne Floyd, I think that would be as good a project to put it.

Thanks Patricia Ann Scoggin. I just wanted to make sure. :-)

Susanne Floyd,
I will look for a little more info to include in the Perforated Ulcer project that include more about bleeding as a complication.

Patricia Ann Scoggin I need a project for Tropical Disease, when you have the time. I know there are many of them, but all I can get is that he died of "Tropical Disease" during WWII.

Thanks!

Private User,
I will start working on a project for "Tropical Disease", although there are many that will come under this heading.

Patricia Ann Scoggin Thanks, I appreciate it! You did a nice job 😊

Erica Howton,
RE this project:"Tropical diseases" https://www.geni.com/projects/Tropical-diseases/4488112
1) I am not sure about the title--should it include WWI & WWII or leave it as it is??? Should it also include Infection in the title??? I think deaths after that would be more specific in the cause.
2) Where should it go in the Cause of Death portal (I haven't put it there yet) Should it maybe be a stand alone project???
3) I couldn't find a pix that really seemed to fit it...
4) Are there any other changes / modifications you feel it needs???

I like the pic!

To me, to confine to the world wars is too specific. Surely it’s better to be broader?

Doesn’t it fit under “infectious diseases?”

Patricia Ann Scoggin There are two Uremia projects, both started by you. Could you please only have one? I left one project for the other, so now two won't show up on my list of projects when adding people to them.

Private User, I merged the 2 Uremia projects and deleted the one with only 3 profiles in it (I requested their being added to this profile so they aren't "lost").

For those confused as to which Uremia project to add a profile to this is the one now: Uremia ---https://www.geni.com/projects/Uremia/4475016

Patricia Ann Scoggin I need a project for Thrombocytopenia, if you please.

New project for Thrombocytopenia, see: https://www.geni.com/projects/Thrombocytopenia/4488902

Sorry, but in the process of creating it I forgot to add many who I would have normally added to the project as collaborators.

Erica Howton, I put the above project in the Cause of Death portal as it can be a cause of death if not treated early enough. I listed it as a separate / independent project as it didn't really fit in any of the other categories. Are there any other projects that it might belong to???
There are 2 pix -- would the other one be better???

Private User see above project. It is in both Medical & Cause of Death portals.
