It's almost time for the 35th annual Banned Books Week! The international observance will be 24 September - 30 September -- and what better way to participate on Geni than to build some new trees? :)

We just hit 200 profiles today, but we still have a lot of work to do. Some famous priorities to build trees for include:

Rudolfo Anaya
Margaret Atwood
Dan Brown
Ralph Ellison
Gustave Flaubert
Ken Follett
George Galloway
S. E. Hinton
bell hooks.
Jhumpa Lahiri
Lois Lowry
Henry Miller
Edna O'Brien
Joyce Carol Oates
Dav Pilkey
Annie Proulx
François Rabelais
Alice Walker

If anyone can pitch in, please do so!

Pierre Quenee, since you've been building a lot of French trees, could you maybe help? We have Henri Barbusse, François Rabelais, Gustave Flaubert, Claude Guillon, and Gilles Perrault on our "to-do" list. Are any of those trees you'd like to build? If not, that's okay!

Radclyffe Hall is in. I can take her line back to the 18th century, but I haven't gotten it back further. It ought to be possible, though.

Radclyffe "John" Hall

Since I can't take Radcylffe Hall back any further, I've been working on her long term partners, Una Troubridge and Mabel Batten. And Troubridge clearly calls Mabel Batten her cousin. Maybe that doesn't mean first cousin, sure. but I've taken them both back for at least two generations, sometimes three, and I can NOT find the connection.

time to walk away for a while.

No worries! I'm thrilled with what you've done. :) I added Radclyffe to some other projects, including the delightful "Scandalous Women."

The discussion of her reminded me that we also need Havelock Ellis, so I added him to our to-do list.

If anyone wants to SmartCopy a branch for us, there's a tree for Margaret Atwood here: https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Atwood-Family-Tree-123 She can be built down from Amasa I. Killam. Or I can do it next time I'm at a desktop!

Private User,

I'm going to work on expanding out her tree as well as work down to Margaret.

Private User,

Here's the link to Margaret Atwood's profile. I still have to complete the SmartCopy of the rest of her mother's tree as well as her father's tree.

I also will be SmartCopying over the trees of the following relatives of Margaret: Amanda Killam (Woodman), Ora Louise Killam (Webster), Sarah Killam (Webster) and William Archer Tupper.

I have created Rudy Anaya -- Rudolfo Anaya

but can't connect him to the tree yet.

Family from rural New Mexico.

Ooooh!

Am about to connect Rudy Anaya to the tree.

Ooh, I am SO GLAD I posted this thread! We're going like gangbusters here. :) Can't thank everyone enough!

8/28/2017 at 2:10 PM

Rudy is 23rd cousin once removed through Henri de Beaumont, Earl of Buchan

Bless Me!

8/28/2017 at 2:20 PM

He is my 21st cousin once removed through Charles of France, Count of Valois

I figured he was connected to the land grant families, and this was true.

Hurrah!

The tree of Margaret Atwood is going to take me some time to complete as 90% of it is new to Geni.

I didn't watch it but there was a programme on BBC about Margaret Atwood tonight - a funny coincidence.
The tree for Ken Follett is also new by the looks - thus the way with so many UK trees!

I wish I could figure out Dan Brown. He has a new book coming out soon and it'll be another worldwide bestseller.

Dan Brown , although still a work in progress

! Tamás Flinn Caldwell-Gilbert you made my day. Thank you so much!

I've started Ralph Ellison, but he's a hard one.

Erica Howton, is it Rudolf Peierls who was banned? I can't find anything on a writing ban, just that he had to leave for the UK. How should we list him? Was it his papers?

8/29/2017 at 8:45 AM

No, he didn't write a banned book. He's Joyce Carol Oates entree into the Big Tree (her husband's father in law). Famous physicist, worked on the Manhattan project.

Anaïs Nin tree found and Henry Miller started

Aha, gotcha.

Terry Jackson (Switzer), do you want to make Follett an MP? Or should I? Thank you for adding him! I'll see which other UK authors I might be able to add.

Terry, I added another Brit for you...turns out George Galloway was already on the site (but not in the WFT) through his current wife. I added him to the projects I know of, but I'm sure I missed some. Hopefully we'll get him connected at some point.
