Wikitree says I am descended from Arnulf via Elstrude Flander, whereas geni.com says I am descended via Baldwin III her brother. Something is very wrong.

you are descended from both

You can check for sibling lines of descent by using the green push pin to the right in the relationship path box. Happens all the time - in one line, I am descended from 6 of 9 siblings

Also, you might find your 3rd GGP, for example, descends from 2 or more siblings due to intermarriages

Pedigree collapse. Nothing strange going on here. It's normal.

Geni uses the shortest path algorithm. The database works just like in a GPS navigation. I've already asked the Geni team to add extra features to the search, such as tracing the "route" between two profiles by passing through a third profile, provided by the user. If you do not have a "path" passing through this third profile Geni performs the usual path. But it seems the Geni administrators do not find this relevant! Do they have a tree in Geni? ;-)

I file them under re-connects. Through out time family find each other again. Some times I even get different results from GENI. I have learned to record everyone so I can find the re-connects.
