Please move "Count" to the title field. It now exists as per https://www.geni.com/discussions/161459

It is currently impossible to search for Leo Tolstoy, which will cause many duplicates to be created.

Thanks in advance.

Count is only used in Display Name and should not have any influence on searches.

Well, you are not searching for "Leo Tolstoy" as you stated, you searched for "лев толстой"..

Try https://www.geni.com/search?search_type=people&names=%D0%9Be%D0...

Notice the difference in лев versus Лев.

I do however agree that there seem to be an error in Geni here since searches using the Latin alphabet is case insensitive and should be that using the Cyrillic as well.

All other people can be found via case insensitive search. This is only the case with this profile that something is broken. I have assumed that it was due to "count" or "граф" being placed in the name field, but maybe it's something different. Either way it should be fixed.

Unfortunately the profile is locked, so you cannot see that there is no "count" or "граф" in the name fields.

That's ok. I trust you that it is not there.

They didn't accidentally put patronymic into the first name field? I see sometimes something like that happening as well, and that tends to mess the search up quite well.

Sometimes people add accents into Russian, but i see that in this case this definitely didn't happen.

Anyhow, i hope that this will be fixed. Leo Tolstoy is a very well known russian figure and i believe that if the russian contingent will be increasing on Geni (and i do try to popularise it here) more and more people will be searching for him.

Lately there has been changes in Geni's search, and it appears that they try to transcribe all names into the Roman alphabet and then search, but in the process it misses many correct matches.

Try search for a profile that only has Cyrillic by its Romanization. Is it case sensitive?

Private User, since you're a Russian curator, do you have any advice on how to make this profile easier to find? I was surprised that it doesn't have a Russian curator...maybe people aren't aware of it. Are there other alternate names we should include?

I played a bit with граф Алексей Николаевич Толстой (another Russian writer, profile here: Alexey Nikolayevich Tolstoy) and it seems that Geni's search is mad. This profile is not protected for edit, so anyone can see that right now we have in both Russian and English profile all 3 parts of his name (surname, patronimic and family) recorded in dedicated fields (no combinatins like name + patronimic etc). But if you put into dedicated search fields his name and family name (i.e. Алексей to 'name', Николаевич to 'patronimic' and Толстой to 'family' you will get nothing:

https://www.geni.com/search?search_advanced=open&search_extende...=

But if you will leave only name and family name, it works:
https://www.geni.com/search?search_advanced=open&search_extende...=

More than that, if you put both name and patronimic name into 'name' field, it also works:
https://www.geni.com/search?search_advanced=open&search_extende...=

Ho, now all 3 searches do work! But not with our Leo...
