Back to the subject, one thing I've noticed is that most English and Scottish Dukes seem to be descended via one particular man, my 10th GG, William Douglas, 1st Marquis of Douglas . This makes them all cousins. The Royal Dukes, including Wills (11th cousin), come through the Drummond and Stewart lines for me. Now the interesting thing is that these families all habited the Scottish lowlands in a line running South West from Douglas, through Sandilands, up to Dunfermline and Perth, and on to Glamis (a favourite Royal Scottish castle). This seems to be the main source area for much of European royalty today. Is it perhaps co-incidental that families such as the Sandilands and Douglases also had strong links to historical Knights Templar families? The concentration of power, which is still manifest in royal families to this day, is quite astounding. Whilst the upper classes may not be that rich in cash terms, they have immense wealth in land, with only around 400 people owning over three quarters of Scotland, for instance. The same is true, albeit to a lesser extent, in England.
