I propose the possibility that one of Mael Coluim's sub-names; 'An Bodhbhdercc', loosely translated as 'the dangerous red', may actually have been 'Bó Deargh' i.e., 'Red Cow' or more likely 'Red Bull'. A reference to his strength and temper.
