I have posted the christening record of William Henderson to sources. This is the original script version from Scotlands Peoples.gov. It shows he was born out of wedlock to Sir John Henderson of Fordell.
There are a number of questions that I have about this. I am descended from Samuel Henderson b. 1713 who moved to Augusta Co VA. He is supposed to be the son of William and Margaret.However, the Clan Henderson Chief Alistair who also claims to be descended from Sir John has a y-DNA profile that makes this impossible. My common ancestor with Alistair lies 4000 years in the past.
There were at least 3 other William Hendersons who were born in this period in Scotland. There were a similar number of Margaret Bruces.
Have we mixed them up? Was Sir John not really the father? There are no birth records for Samuel or his brother James who both lived in Augusta Co in the Scotlands Peoples records. Where were they born? Who was their father.
I am eager to find other male Hendersons who are descendants of William and of Samuel and James for DNA testing. I think we need to confirm that my line connects to Lt. James Henderson of Augusta to insure that the error is not in my own line. Then we need to confirm William and which William is the father.
