Stephen Hopkins, "Mayflower" Passenger - Constance Dudley still in text & sources

IN THE PROFILE SECTION:

ca 1581 is fine but the baptism record is in Upper Clatford, Hampshire, not Hursley which is where his first three children were baptized and burial/inventory/probate of his wife, Mary, in May 1613.

Son of "Capt" John Hopkins? There is no record that John Hopkins was a "Captain" is there? Where did "Capt" come from. First time I saw that was about 3 years ago on a website tree..

We have NO INDICATION that he was brother of Wm of Ribbesford, Worcestershire. If, in fact, Wm was born in Ribbesford as shown on his page then he's definitely not the brother of Mayflower Hopkins since John and Agnes were in Hampshire. The Mayflower Society and the Hopkins Genealogy researchers and historians don't think Wm of Worcester is related to Mayflower. The William Hopkins who was bapt 16 Jun 1575 was bapt in Upper Clatford, Hampshire, England. We have nothing further on him. (or the two girls in the family). More on William's page.

IN THE "ABOUT" SECTION:

We know already that he didn't die exactly on 6 Jun 1644.

The text looks like a cut+paste from at least three sources with one large section copied FOUR TIMES. The phrase, "apparently had every intention of bringing his family back to Virginia" appears 4 times as does, "several others organized a mutiny against the current governor."

I thought "Married twice. Not sure what order." was strange.

There's a statement that "Stephen and Elizabeth had eight children:" and then goes on to list 7 not in the right order.

STILL in the text is, "Same Stephen Hopkins married to Constance Dudley Hopkins and father of Bethia". Maybe someone could remove it since neither is true. They were trying for the wife of William Kelsey but she's not Bethia either. His wife is UNK.

First daughter Elizabeth's (Bethia wasn't short for Elizabeth in the old days) baptism was misread as May1604 and has been corrected to March in all of Caleb Johnson's material.

We don't know Oceanus' exact death date. Range would be 1621-1623.

Somehow the numbering system got messed up for the children. The kids skip from #3 to #5. We only know of 10 children.

IN THE "SOURCES" SECTION:

Some of the "sources" listed for him aren't historical records or documents. Vague definition isn't giving us records....often just stories that aren't based in fact.
There's an AGBI file that has 7 different birth dates in 3 different places. Probable mix-up seems to include his non-son John from CT.
One is a cut+paste from 2010 of his Find-a-Grave Page. By cutting and pasting old data we're now stuck with a static page and miss all the edits have have happened since. We're not on the same page.
One goofy U.S. and International Marriage Records says that Elizabeth Fisher was born in MA.
Another one has the wife as Constance Dudley.
One person submitted two diff birth places/dates, 2 diff death dates, and some really strange children.

2. 8 Nov 1581 in Gloucestershire, England

are databases/indexes, not historical documents or actual records of an event.
Much info for Green Leaf Hints was "extracted" by computer sweeps through submittals from people who often were name collectors as shown above from errors that are being recycled from old contributed IGI files.

For example, a real marriage record has the exact date and place of the event, not just a year and a "Un" [unknown] or "Gl" for the location.

ON THE MEDIA TAB:

One of the photos is of a very large 2-story house with two prominent chimneys. That house is in Providence, Rhode Island and is on the National Register. It belonged to Stephen Hopkins (1707-1785) who was born in Rhode Island and signed the Declaration of Independence. There is no known connection between that Hopkins family (from Worcestershire) and the Mayflower family from Hampshire.

Just clarifying that no one thinks the man kneeling on the beach is actually Stephen Hopkins. The artist, Mike Heywood, says it's a generic man. The faceless cartoon guy isn't him either, but a popular picture attached to many trees. There are no drawings, paintings or portraits of Stephen Hopkins. Winslow is the only Pilgrim to have sat for a portrait.

There are 4 christenings in 2 years, different places, and a birth in Hursley which is unlikely.
There's a marriage in 1600 to Constance DUDLEY.
Another marriage to Constance DUDLEY in 1604.
An error of birth month for first-born Elizabeth.
